The fact that America is the world's superpower is indisputable. America's domination of the world is primarily centered on its massive economy and sophisticated military. More so, the American culture is robust and has been able to penetrate most countries, especially in the entertainment industry. In essence, America's influence on the entire globe is spread across political, economic, and social spheres. However, the influence has been contained by several barriers and challenges as from the start of the cold war. Therefore, there are several challenges and opportunities concerning the United States of America around the globe.
First and foremost, Mickey, Levitisky & Way (2017) state that from an economic perspective, China has become a significant economic threat to the US and its rapid economic expansion threatens to topple the US from the top position. China has seized several trade opportunities, especially with the developing world by offering massive loans without harsh conditions. Therefore, several counties are shifting away from the US and turning to China for economic deals. As a result, several trade wrangles have risen between the US and China with the most recent one affecting the Chinese tech giant Huawei.
Moreover, Russia has become a major modern political challenge to the US. For instance, Russia is accused of meddling and hacking the American elections, thus interfering with their credibility. More so, Russia has become a stumbling block to America's global political agenda by rushing to the aid of America's adversaries. For instance, Russia has continued to protect and maintain the Assad regime in Syria while the US wants the regime to come down. Another example is Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro, whom the United States is against while Russia supports him. Thus, Russia has become a severe threat to American global political agenda and opportunities.
Additionally, the US social values of human liberty and equality for all human beings are subject to modern challenges. In the US, LGBT groups are licitly considered as part of the vast society. However, several countries in the world, primarily African and Muslim nations, are against this vice. As a result, the US has received a hostile response in its quest to promote human rights and equality globally based on inclusion and tolerance of LGBT persons in other countries.
In winding up, the United States of America remains to be a force to reckon due to its military, political, social, and economic might. According to Spykman (2017); however, this does not imply that it is immune to contemporary challenges. Instead, the US should even strive for further economic, political, and social endeavors to put off any possibility of being caught up with other countries.
