The presence of some gender inequality characterizes every society. Such is the case because the different societies believe in the existence of fundamental differences between the two genders (Leon-Guerrero, 2019, p.165). There are different sociological perspectives regarding gender inequality. There is the functionalist perspective that argues that inequality is unavoidable. It is because of the different roles that either gender plays at the house (Leon-Guerrero, 2019, p.168).

The functionalist perspective states that there exist biological differences between females and males and therefore lead differing lives. Women usually are charged with a role related to their family, for instance, taking care of their homes. The perspective continues to the workplace whereby women get situated in careers and professionals dealing with caring and service. Such occupations include healthcare, administrative professions, and teaching. Gender inequality still becomes demonstrated within these professions, such as in healthcare, where men choose surgical jobs while women choose primary care responsibilities (Leon-Guerrero, 2019, p. 169).

Career segregation occurs because of the concept of the gendered division of labor, which insists on the various roles that each gender should conduct (Leon-Guerrero, 2019, p.169). Horizontal segregation is another reason why women take on nonmanual labor in comparison to the males who are encouraged to take up manual jobs. Horizontal segregation is contributed to by factors such as discrimination in the workplace by employers (Leon-Guerrero, 2019, p.176).

The advertisement regarding the recruitment demonstrates sexism. Such is because it highlights the discrimination between the two sexes. This is because it implies that the nursing career is as strenuous as the other occupations related to the male gender. Therefore, the advertising post instigates gender inequality. Thus, the presence of gender inequality is promoted by different social forces (Leon-Guerrero, 2019, p. 173).

This is a great post to which I would like to add the following in agreement. The advertising post increases gender inequality already in existence. It is despite the increased development whereby both women and men pursue similar careers. Career segregation is an aspect that should be done away with as it encourages the gendered division of labor.

I agree with the aggressiveness of the advertisement. This is the case because there is a notion of what either gender should do. Such is demonstrated by women taking on familial roles and the male gender pursuing manual labor. This concept is demonstrated by horizontal segregation as well as the gendered division of labor.
