This study will explain the impacts of global media and its coverage on mass migration, how the media reports directly impact public attitude and actions, the response of policy-makers to the perpetual flow of mass migration, and colonialists' effect in our post-colonial world.

Mass-migration has recently risen into public attention, especially from people moving from Africa, Asia, and Middle-east to the European countries. The media opinion is the primary source of public opinion, as it is the one showing different pictures about immigration. This situation has forced the European countries to make other policies to curb immigrants' flow into their countries ( Facchini et al., 2019). Various factors to be included; immigrants number allowed each year, their data such as birth, gender, and the extent to which immigrants pose a risk to the host citizens. Migration coloniality impacting the post-colonial world in terms of policies are put across to provide a basis on migration in seeking asylum and refugees.

Impact of Mass-Media

The media is the source of the pictures created in our brains in regards to immigration. According to a sketched psychological principles by Walter Lippmann in his 1992 classic public opinion. He showed that the media is the primary source of the images in our heads about the world. He described how the public formed an attitude towards the First World War from the pictures printed in their minds by media, not the real situation on the battlefield (Kosho, 2016). (Counttenier et al., 2019) This coverage has created fear amongst the citizens in European countries. Due to this fear, the EU is prompted to make laws that will control immigration flow into their countries (Facchini et al., 2019).

News coverage tends to classify immigrants based on their religion, whereby Muslims are most likely to appear in newspaper coverage than other religions (Counttenier et al., 2019). This has created political division based on immigrants' crimes and cause an impact on the voting system. Due to this news coverage, voters tend to cast their votes on parties that don't support immigration (Eber et al., 2018).

Individual Perceptions

The mass-media is responsible for the perception regarding the flow of immigration in European countries. Hostile immigration news influences migrants' public attitude (Counttenier et al., 2019); once the media share news covering the crimes and insecurities brought about by migrants, the available views the migrants as threats towards their culture, security, and economy. Due to the public formed attitude towards immigration, political and party preference are noticed, Such as public vote for parties and leaders that do not support immigration (Eber et al., 2018).

Mass-media emphasizes individual stories and acts to persuade the public through their schedule, therefore influencing policy preferences (Facchini et al., 2019). In the United States of America, media houses were on the debate regarding two legislative initiatives on illegal immigration. The bill discussed in the House (H.R.4437) that talks of enforcement and deportation of immigrants and the senate proposal (S.2611) that proposed legalization for undocumented immigrants(Facchini et al., 2019). It was evident that people who view certain media TV stations were more likely to vote for a proposed bill that was different from those watching the other media station supporting the second bill.

The European Union has made conditions governing the immigration of individuals to their member states (Druner). The media globally has cover topics that portray how the immigrants' origin country has created an unsettling atmosphere to the citizen of the host country. Refugees have been labeled as a threat to security, especially if they come from countries prone to terrorism (Eber et al., 2018). They are termed as an economic threat to the host countries. The EU provides incentives to promote legal immigrants' integration and laws that prevent and reduce irregular immigration (Druner).

Immigration in the colonial era happens due to poverty, epidemic menaces, and religious persecution; however, as industrialization expanded, most immigrants were allowed in Europe to provide labour (Rodriguez). The loss of power in some sovereign countries such as Asia countries caused post-colonial migration. This prompted immigration rules implemented in the nineteenth century that transition colonial rule to sovereign countries. These sovereign countries established laws that controlled the increasing immigration by banning immigrants from particular social, religious, racial groups, and National from entry into their countries (Rodriguez).

Conclusion

The implemented laws in the coloniality migration have influence the post-colonial world to devise strategies intended to create border control measures, stratagem, and tropes that have been made (Rodriguez). The revised racial migratory rules and laws allow immigration based on their skills, academics, and even those seeking asylum. However, post-colonial immigrants often experience cold treatment and racial discrimination. They are preserved as lesser beings like their predecessor during the colonial period. Post-colonial economy, immigrants are perceived as a threat in the economy, and in some countries, their religion is set to create a criminal impression amongst the host citizen.
