New England offers an incredible array of things to do, and it was fascinating visiting the only umbrella cover museum in the world. There is a lot of information that can be gained from visiting the Umbrella Cover Museum to learn about the stories connected to the covers.
Museum Visited and Entrance Charges
I visited the Umbrella Cover Museum Located in Peaks Island, in Maine, which is a museum is about umbrella covers. The museum is the only one of its kind in the world and thus, the most extensive collection of umbrella covers. Curator Nancy Hoffman created the museum. Since its inception, the museum has collected umbrella covers from over 65 countries around the globe and Hoffman's accomplishment have been recognized as the largest umbrella collection in the world by the Guinness Book of World Records (Attra 2 ). The museum location in Peak Island is accessible and affordable fees for a tour in the museum conducted by the tour guide, Hoffman herself. It is an amazing tour in a museum that celebrates everyday wonder through simple umbrella sheaths that tell people's stories.
Employee Attitude and Museum Atmosphere
Hoffman provides the tour and is one of the most charismatic, and she was delightful as she gave the guided tour while delivering her wide knowledge of umbrella covers. Hoffman started the tour of the museum by asking visitors to read the mission of the museum aloud, which puts the mission at the forefront of the tour and makes the visitors care about the umbrella cover collection. She made a point of engaging all visitors with questions that were appropriate to their age, for example, different questions for kids and adults, which is an excellent engagement (Weaver 124). The atmosphere was pleasant, and visitors were cheerful as they silently listened to Hoffman's talk about covers. She kept the visitors engaged by changing the tour; for instance, when she talked about British covers, she used a British accent. The visitors were delighted by Hoffman's enthusiasm about umbrella covers and the stories they carried.
Museum's Space and Experience
The museum provides adequate conducive space that allows visitors to enjoy the viewing experience. The museum is one, and a half room, which puts the visitors near the umbrella covers providing a surreal and personal experience. Further, Hoffman provides personal touch since she is the founder and has vast knowledge about umbrella covers. The museum collects and preserves covers. Hoffman educates the visitors about the stories associated with covers and allows them to ask questions. The museum has a conducive environment where a person can enjoy and learn about umbrella covers (Attra 2). Hundreds of the umbrella covers in the museum's collection hang on the walls show the beauty in the simplest of things and the museum presents an amazing conducive viewing experience for the visitors.
Impressive and Unimpressive Museum Pieces
Since its inception, the museum has grown and collected many umbrellas, but the British Six-foot patio umbrella sleeve was an impressive piece of art while the the-two-and-half inch Barbie doll was not an impressive piece. The United Kingdom boasts of vast history, and because of consecutive rainy seasons, there are plenty of umbrella covers in the country over the years (Hoffman 61). The six-foot patio umbrella sleeve was a cover of an umbrella that was manufactured to be large enough for a family to protect them from rain. However, the two and a half Barbie doll cover was more of a fashionable cover that did not house a functional umbrella but more of a fashion item or doll accessory. In total, the museum houses many umbrella covers of sizes and shapes ranging from patio furniture sized covers to doll accessories. The museum's collection of umbrella covers is dedicated to appreciating everyday mundane life.
Overall Museum Experience
The visit to the Museum of umbrella cover was a memorable experience. The best part of the visit was not about the umbrella covers, but the stories connected to the umbrella covers. For instance, the stories related to over seven hundred covers include stories of hurricanes, weddings in foreign countries, and stories of adventures gone wrong, all celebrating human life (Attra 2). In the two hours spent in the museum, Hoffman remained exciting and captivating, and it is an experience I would want to experience again in the future. Hoffman is a charismatic, unique and knowledgeable docent, who hosts each with cheer and sometimes a song. She is passionate about umbrella covers and speaking to visitors indicates a person feel included. The museum is welcoming to all people. The museum pays tribute to a forgotten item by paying tribute to umbrella covers and provides a fascinating experience, and I would like to revisit the museum in the future.
Conclusion
It was a fantastic experience visiting the justifiable word famous Umbrella Cover Museum on Peaks Island. The founder and museum tour guard Hoffman is captivating, charming, and knowledgeable about umbrella covers and hosts visitors with cheer, providing an ultimate museum experience. I would recommend that people to visit Peaks Island and see the amazing collection of umbrella covers and see how people we are connected through umbrella covers that tell our stories.
