Contrast dye side effects
This paper seeks to examine the acute adverse effects of reactions following the administration of iodine-based contrast drugs in the examinations of patients with CT-scan, and this is clearly elaborated in Chapter One. The chapter examines that various research works that have been conducted to help in highlighting how contrast drugs using iodine affect patients and how medics can help in preventing or reducing such effects. Examination of the various studies greatly help in sensitizing the population, researchers have done various analyses regarding the same. Chapter Two, on the other hand, is the analysis of relevant literature with the view of finding the common ideas regarding adverse effects of the iodine-based contrast drugs to find solutions to the effects. Additionally, review of the right literature is in good direction towards the evaluation of the effects of such drugs, this makes qualitative analysis the most appropriate way of examination of the matter under study as it helps in bridging the gap between knowledge that researcher have on the matter.
3.1. CT scan with contrast side effects literature selection
3.1.1. Searching for Relevant Literature
In the process of searching for the right and the most relevant literature for the study, ‘PROQUEST’ databases proved to be of great importance as it provided both peer reviewed and the yet to be reviewed literary sources. Additionally, online platforms were also of great importance as evident in the manner in which it made it possible to access numerous books that are relevant for the study. The common combination of words that helped in online search included ‘Adverse Reactions of Iodine-based Contrast Drugs,’ and ‘Acute Effects of Iodine-based Contrast Drugs.’ Using such combination of words during online search helped in accessing relevant books and peer reviewed articles that were published not more than five years ago. In this manner, the study employed a total of forty sources either through online means and books published in hardcopy to provide the wealth of knowledge required for the examination of the issue of adverse reactions that result from the use of iodine-based contrast drugs in the examination of patients with CT-scan. The selected books were of great importance in the fulfilment of research objectives and helped in the delivery of quality research paper and provided an authoritative paper.
The process of selection of the books and literary pieces went through a vigorous process to ensure that the 40 books selected for the study were not only relevant bit also credible and authoritative. The first process of selection was to check abstract of the books, and this is the stage where the books were read to confirm that they were relevant on the topic of adverse effects of iodine-based contrast drugs in the examination of patients with CT-scan. The books that had abstracts that were talking about the topic were eliminated and those whose abstracts were in line on the issue proceeded to the next step. There were some books that were disqualified for use in the analysis of the topic, however, they were the employed to support ideas from the primary books in the analysis of the topic. This is evident in the use of books that were highlighting the adverse effects of iodine-based contrast drugs but were not specific to CT-scan. Some of those books were only talking about the effects of contrast drugs without being specific on iodine, such books were used to support points from other books and greatly helped in improving the credibility or authenticity of the research paper.
3.1.2. Inclusion Criteria
The research process did put in vigorous steps to confirm that the selected books conformed to the plans set out for the process of analysis and the books had to have similar variables used in the measurement of adverse effects of iodine-based contrast drugs. The uniformity of variables during the process of analysis was to ensure that the books and articles conformed to the same line of thought and that the degree of research performed was uniform. Such helped in evaluating the degree of agreement or disagreement of researchers differences of the views of clients regarding iodine-based contrast drugs. Inclusion criteria for the books and research resources was majorly based on the year of publication; this is because the research focused literary resources published in the last five years. Such is because it is apparent that such books gave out the most recent ideas on the topic and were therefore most relevant for the study. Books that were published more than five years ago were eliminated without regarding the degree of their relevance; this is because this paper seeks to update the medical professionals and the general population on the adverse effects of iodine-based contrast drugs. The other criteria used in the inclusion was the methods that was used in the writing of the books to ensure that comparison of results was uniform. Finally, the books used in the analysis had to be about population in Sweden, the Scandinavian countries or countries in northern Europe.
