Where can one start with education and women? This is a broad and extensive topic that requires the attention of the world’s governments and can change the trajectory of entire nations. Education is a fundamental right and a driver of societal progress that would be impossible without women participating in it. However, when it comes to women’s education, challenges arise just as often as opportunities. Families, communities, and nations struggle for the right of women in their countries to receive education and forge their own paths in the world. Female education is a subject that combines several factors that are worth exploring, including gender equality, economic development, and the well-being of the entire society.

It would be foolish to believe that the education of women helps individual growth without impacting the future of the nations and governments. Educated women are a force to be reckoned with, which is something the governments should never underestimate. They are ready to contribute to society and be efficient in different areas of life while demanding higher salaries. They are also better equipped to face the challenges of their surroundings and add to the cultural enrichment of their communities. Women who are smart and educated can be viewed as role models for the younger generation looking up to them. They inspire others to push boundaries, overcome adversity, and pursue education no matter what. The empowerment of women through education fosters inclusivity and equality.

The Path to Equality

Education is often referred to as a tool that helps societies restore the notion of gender equality and achieve balance in men and women getting an equal amount of education at international facilities. For centuries, women have been denied basic education because of society's prejudices and preconceived notions. They have been told to run households and maintain a family balance instead of attending schools and colleges to contribute to society like the rest of the nation. This impeded female growth and caused a lot of issues in retrospect. Women had to adjust to their roles as the heads of the household, even though some of them were more academically inclined and wanted to pursue education, even with all the challenges surrounding the process at the time.

However, providing education for women means that society has made huge progress compared to the complexities of the past. Right now, women who receive education are able to break generational cycles that run in the family and prevent them from achieving their goals. Education also empowers women to challenge stereotypes and prove that females are just as capable as males and can contribute to economic growth just as effectively. This has been confirmed by international organizations such as UNICEF, which has been exploring the subject of female education for decades and can attest to females and males being equally capable in almost every sphere that has to do with mental effort and mental concentration.

For example, educated women are more willing to advocate for other women’s rights and freedoms and make informed decisions about their health and family. More importantly, educated women are more likely to enter the workforce and contribute to the country’s economy by demanding higher wages. UNICEF and the World Bank estimate that eliminating the gender gap in secondary and higher education will help economies earn billions of dollars annually. Furthermore, women who have an education can attain more opportunities to introduce their children to the benefits of education, which results in a wealth of untapped potential across generations. If a woman receives education overcoming hardships and hazards, chances are, she will teach her children to follow in her footsteps and pursue their educational goals despite the circumstances.

Education and Societal Well-Being

Education can also impact women’s health and well-being. Educated women can make more rational and sensible decisions when it comes to health outcomes, seek professional help when needed, ensure medical care for their children, understand the nutritional needs of their families, and access resources for a better life. In other words, women who have been taught how to take care of their basic medical needs are more likely to do the same for their family members without the need to consult medical professionals first if the urgency of the situation requires it.

Based on countless reports provided by UNICEF, women who have received secondary education are more likely to recognize health risks and advocate for the improvement of healthcare in their communities while remaining vigilant and alert in the process of recognizing any health hazards that occur within their families. In addition, educated, smart women play an important role in reducing inequality on a generational level. They can support other women on their journey and engage in social activities that foster individual development and promote a healthy society where inclusivity and equality reign supreme. This can also strengthen the democratic foundations of society, where women and children are treated as equals and are given access to the basic rights they have been denied for a long time. It is especially important for third-world countries, where issues with infrastructure and cultural norms often prevent girls from attending school.

However, creating an environment that would be conducive to learning is not something that is entirely out of reach and can never be achieved with collective effort and determination. There are numerous initiatives funded by volunteer organizations that can help women on this journey and ensure their safety is prioritized in developing countries. The challenges of female education are addressed through scholarships, safe transportation for female students, and a specific schedule that would be gender sensitive and allow girls to receive education in secure conditions. It goes without saying that governments need to finance female education and advance women’s rights whenever they have an opportunity to set an example for organizations and individuals throughout the country. However, politicians aside, organizations like the Malala Fund and UNICEF have advocated for these causes for decades, ensuring that young girls have a right to learn in every corner of the world.
