Cyber sex has come as a result of globalization process that has been characterized by large-scale connectivity in the world (Lo & Wei, 2002). As such, pornography has become a widespread phenomenon whose full effect to social relationships is yet to be determined. This proposal seeks to analyze data in order to analyze the effect of pornography viewership on social relationships.

Literature Review

Much research has been done on the effect of pornography in the issues of violence against women (Shope, 2004). Some instances of such violence have been viewed as a result of watching pornography of various kinds. Therefore, pornography is the exposure of explicit sexual material via whatever avenue, whether it is pictorial, video or audio (Paolucci, Genuis, & Violato, 1997). Social theory has been used to describe the large-scale effect that pornography has had, including violence against women (Donnerstein, 1984), aggression (Allen, Emmers, Gebhardt, & Giery, 1995), trivialization of rape and sexual callousness (Zillmann & Bryant, 1982).

Methodology

This paper will use a quantitative approach in distributing questionnaires to sexual abuse patients to determine the existence of watching pornography with their partners. As such, we seek to determine the prevalence of pornography in social relationships where abuse has occurred.

Preliminary Results

As the research suggests, there will be many instances where the pornography phenomenon will be existent. Some challenges expected to be faced will be the non-responsiveness of patients who have experienced trauma as a result of sexual abuse encounters. Nonetheless, this will enable the random selection approach to be more useful in finding the prevalence of pornography in such relationships.

Question 5:

Annotated Bibliography

Robert, A. D. (1976). Is Pornography Good For You? Southwestern Journal of Philosophy 7 (3) , 95-118.

This journal article outlines the effects of pornography in social circles. The authors discuss the issues of social concern that lead to pornography viewership and suggest social mechanisms for dealing with pornography addictions.

David, D. (1992). The Harm of Pornography. Ethics 102(3) , 534-551.

In this article, the author explains that although everyone has a sexual freedom, acting or watching pornography poses a threat to themselves since it leads to erosion of moral values. These moral values are responsible for the maintenance of values such as valuing different people as sexual beings and so on.

Lindsay, C., & Jacob, M. (2014). The Philosophy of Pornography: Contemporary Perspectives. Journal of Social Sciences.

Research was done and it was pointed out that pornography is not purely harmful to our society. Reasons are given why pornography should not be done away with, including sexual education and other socially acceptable reasons.

Allen, M., Emmers, T., Gebhardt, L., & Giery, M. A. (1995). Exposure to pornography and acceptance of rape myths. Journal of Communication, 45(1) , 5-26.

This study investigated the impact of pornography viewership on the phenomenon of rape. Exposure to pornography was found to have a lessening effect of the moral values of individuals for rape. Respondents were less offended by the idea of rape after constant exposure.

Piers, B. (1993). Pornography: Degradation and Rhetoric. Cogito 7(2) , 127-134.

It views the nature and extent of pornography. Studies were carried out and Piers (1993) recorded that immoral behavior is one of the effects of pornography. Social relationships often crumbled after exposure to pornography.

Shope, J. H. (2004). When Words Are Not Enough The Search for the Effect of Pornography on Abused Women. Violence Against Women, 10(1) , 56-72.

In this paper, studies were carried out among women who had experienced domestic violence. The purpose of the research was to determine the extent of pornography viewership as was witnessed in the course of the relationship. Domestic violence was found to occur when one partner was a porn regular.

Question 6: Outline

Pornography: Beneficial or Detrimental?

Both adults and the youth watch pornography. The media and the internet have made such explicit materials easily accessible for anyone willing to watch or view it. With this fact in mind, we examine the advantages and disadvantages of watching or viewing pornographic material in an argumentative approach.

Pornography affects the emotional intimacy of those who watch it. Research has shown that partners in a relationship will have unrealistic expectations of each after viewing pornographic material, and therefore increase overall dissatisfaction in each other. On the other hand, viewing explicit matieral together has been used in marriage counseling for the promotion of relations between couples. Moreover, it has been used as a method of sex therapy used to counter the effects of monotony in sexual relations, espeiaclly in the matrimonial home.

Having noted then the potential for explicit material viewership to have both a positive and negative effect, it is key to ensure that necessary restrictions are put in place for access to such material to ensure that children and non-interested parties are not unnecessarily exposed to it.

Question 7:

Pornography: Beneficial or Detrimental?

Pornography is defined as any printed or visual description of sexual organs or activities that are meant to stimulate emotional feelings. Technology has made easier nowadays since anyone can watch the pornographic videos from any part of the world through mobile phones, tablets or computers (Lindsay & Jacob, 2014). It has become a normal trend. Both youths and adults watch these videos. This essay will touch on the effects and benefits of pornography.

Many are not aware that pornography causes someone to create an emotional bond with the fake world. Many watch these videos in order to get an emotional connection with others. As you continue to watch these videos, you become more drawn to those acting and you start having the vivid images regularly. Although you will get pleasure from watching it, it drastically lowers your self-esteem and suddenly you start being anxious and unfulfilled. This in turn affects the way you relate with people since pornography cannot satisfy the need for emotional intimacy. You will start becoming distant and emotionally unavailable since you do not want to socialize and make friends (David, 1992).

Studies have proven that pornography is also beneficial to us in many ways. Despite the bad it causes to the society, it has some benefits as well. Watching pornography with your partner can bring the two of you close together. It is a shared activity that allows both of you to become a part of each others fantasies. Various articles have pointed out that watching pornography together with your partner generates a healthy relationship between the two of you (Lo & Wei, 2002). It enables the two partners to connect well with one another since it promotes an environment that allows for openness and good communication between the two. Many psychologists have recommended married couples who are facing difficult times in their marriage to watch pornography together, which has in turn prevented many from having a divorce since those videos remind them of the emotional intimacy they once had for one another (Robert, 1976).

Pornography has therefore benefits and effects. It is addictive and makes it hard for us to relate well with one another. Yet, it cements the relationship between marriage couples. It allows them to be close with one another. Instead of restricting pornography, the government can enforce laws that are meant to control the production of these videos to avoid extremity of it. Parental guidance should also be observed to ensure that only individuals who are 18 years of age can watch it (Lindsay & Jacob, 2014).
