Technology cannot be separated from human life even though there is a yawning gap between traditional and modern-day innovations. The use of technology is essential to the ever-changing societal demands as it enables man to adapt to the environment. It is unfeasible to predict the future exploration of technology and its impact on the then generation. According to Kaufman (2018), future developments will depend on human competitiveness, creativity, and agility to increase productivity. Often, innovations will come up to remedy an old problem in society. However, improper use of technology can be detrimental to teenagers' moral growth by viewing inappropriate content in the media. Therefore, joint interventions should be put amongst all stakeholders to counter moral decay in society.
As I grew up, I never had many privileges of interacting with much-sophisticated innovations such as smartphones, smart TVs, Gamepads, and so forth. However, I had my fair share of experiences in some mild technological advances in my childhood era, to be precise. In the modern world, the old-fashioned ways of life have diminished due to technological advancements that have come in handy to replace tedious human efforts. Advancements in technology have greatly affected social life; hence people are so addicted to electronic socialization as opposed to the initial physical interactions (Kaufman, 2018). Solid friendship has been sidelined as the trend was in my old days. I, too, had my form of addiction; the television. Addiction to electronic technology has been a huge form of sociological distraction since time immemorial. Many adolescents have been dragged into electronic addiction due to exposure and regular access to electronics at a very tender age. Similarly, my friends and I had the same experience at a very young age. Therefore, it is not worthy of giving me relief that I was not alone anyway, but rather consider the facts about it and consider my own family now that technology has advanced to a whole new level.
My addiction journey started at the age of ten when I was still in junior elementary school. Before realizing the goodness in television programs such as the movies, I remember spending a lot of time with my teenage friends in the neighborhood playing vast forms of teenage games. I could spend the whole day playing and sometimes felt sad when the sun sets because I didn't have enough fun outside. I would drag myself home like a zombie cursing the sun for being so jealous of us. In my personal experience, television's invention affected my social life, beginning from my teenage time. I cannot imagine living in the modern world as a teenager, whereby there is new addictive technology such as 3D gaming, 3D cinemas, unlimited movie platforms. Platforms such as Netflix, YouTube, and Facebook, among others as a reflection of how I conceive myself as a teenager, reveal how an attachment to entertainment can change the mind and renew my view of life.
Finding myself on the social perspective has been a great journey with lots of challenges, even though I sailed through. My early addiction to watching and sticking to specific media programs on the television had a great impact on my life. The effect in social, cognitive, personality as well as developmental psychology was greatly affected, and to a great extent, it defines who I am right now. The actor-agent perspective of it towards my self-esteem, relationships between the self in addition to others did change and describes the forms of relationships that I own right now. According to social cognitive theory, human behavior has been proposed by many psychological theories explaining their behaviors. To explore human functioning, theorists believe in conceptions of human nature. Social practices have vaster implications that affect human potentialities.
To instill value to human efforts, different factors need to be cultivated and developed mainly biological, psychosocial, or socio-structural factors (Kaufman, 2018). In the long run, this will address and recognize human functioning mechanisms and personal determinants according to social cognitive theory. Recently, the resurgence of interest and self-process have pervaded humans functioning indirectly. Every casual process has a self-system intermediary that drives in as an implication to the efforts put towards it. Personal functional factors involving regulating human processes such as cognitive-based motivation, schematic processing experiences, emotional cultivation, memory reconstruct, and representation in addition to psychobiologic functioning.
Generally, humans are self-regulating, proactive, organized, and reflecting from the social cognitive view. The social cognitive theory operates life courses on looking at the hosts of internal mechanisms activated by environmental events. People accomplish goals and tasks using
tools such as sensory, motor, cerebral systems giving directions and meaning to their life (Martin & Bickhard, 2013). This action shapes brain development throughout life, resulting in the acquisition of new skills. Simply, exposure simulation explores influences and manipulates activities in the environment. Regulating own experience and motivation helps one pursue
activities that form the neurobiological symbolic, psychomotor as well as social skills. People are either autonomous agents who simply convey animated environmental influences. Brain activities are mental activities that exist in the neural system and aid in the functionality of the brain. Cumulatively, humans have the power and control over their actions and how they influence their expectations.
Exercising one's control over thoughts and mindset affects and motivates mechanisms through the personal agency. Conceptualizing human agency is in different forms, such as a mechanically reactive agency, an autonomous agency, and a new interactive agency (Martin & Bickhard, 2013). Humans operate notionally on independent agents that have lesser advocates invoking certain behavior. Self-system is a repository narrative with implanted structures that conduit external influences. Operating holistically through dynamical models motivates the multilevel neural networks. Generally, a hybrid of neural activities cannot be fragmented. Argentic capabilities trigger integrative ones and activate human nature to functioning, giving productive results.
The purposes of accessing and processing have been deliberately focused on fashion efficacious. Subconscious minds cannot be reduced to an epiphenomenon mental process (Beauchamp et al., 2019). The sensory organs deliver information in diverse pathways construing, motivating, planning, and regulating. Subjectively all capabilities actions and decisions are fully devoured on human nature and their actions. But importantly, being conscious triggers experiences producing given experiences. I cannot completely blame the television for my current personality since it had positive impacts on my life, too, which made me stand out in every movie argument. Going by the current concerns about teenage behaviors such as drug usage and addiction to sex, I was able to forego and lived a reserved life, which was modest and made my parents proud. The intense nature of peer influence on teenage life can be considered one of the greatest sociological factor that destroys one's life. In my high school days, I remember cases of teenage drug abuse that were so rampant that an array of civil societies started. Drug usage amongst my peers was a major concern to the future generation.
Most of my friends in school had their lives distracted, as they could not focus on education and other important school activities as a result of indulgence in drugs and teenage sex. It is important to have a social life and encounter challenges, just like any other person. However, I think that the importance of having that private life made sense since I had enough time to concentrate on schooling and learned a lot of skills from the technological devices available during that time. At the age of twelve, I first got a chance to interact with a computer. I could play video games, watch some educative content, and learn a lot of computing skills, which I consider instrumental in the current life that I am living. Self-processes of learning have a great impact on personality creation and development. The greatest of it all is the self-determination drive and willingness to explore my initiative. The self-processes have taken over a diverse psychological domain since external factors are becoming relevant in modern psychology as the greatest influence in human functions.
Personal factors and initiatives are believed to be very much associated with attention processes and the schematic processing of experiences, cognitive-based motivation, and psychobiologic functioning (McCrory et al., 2013). The cognitive and behavioral competencies in human psychology is an aspect that is developed in human behavior based on day-to-day transactions of life. From how I perform my tasks, I can attribute my current actions to my prior exposure to technological advancements. I am particularly fond of movies and online gaming. During my free time, I find myself glued to my television watching cinemas, and sometimes play video games on my computer until late in the night. I hastily execute my tasks prioritizing attention to detail, an art I developed through my indulgence in video games. I can strongly highlight the positive impacts of this addiction.
On the negative, technology really impacted my addiction during my early life. Sometimes I find myself preceding social events to watch a particular television program or commence my games from where I left. I deem this a disadvantage because I feel my social life is greatly affected since I am glued to practical aspects of gaming more than interacting with people on social levels. The social perspective that I am looking into is establishing bonds with workmates and schoolmates to accrue social interactions to a person. I don't consider this a
great weakness, but I'd rather balance this and feel the personal effect of interaction and gratitude on other people as they play vital roles in my life. The critical aspect of being conscious is substantive in a cognitive phenomenon. This aspect is very critical in the functionality of the mental wellbeing of human beings. The adequacy of thoughts are actions that form a basis of behavior that characterizes the activities that the mind considers usual. Going by childhood characteristics, the behavioral formation that forms the basis of my behavior in adulthood is distinctive.
The associated forms of addiction and social effects that I consider redundant have been initiated and play a critical role in my current interactions. The early psychologists mapped the behavioral characteristics based on perceived behavioral actions (Beauchamp et al., 2019). They found that the subconscious part of the brain grasps a usual pattern of actions faster than the learning process. I see most of my friends in the current situation fascinated by various actions such as smoking and drug abuse, which can be related to a characteristics behavior established over a long period. It is imperative to consider that actions lead to behavior. This is a basic rule of a psychological trait that has been established over time.
