In the first case study, a 16-year-old was drunk and was raped by her boyfriend's roommate while she had passed out. The perpetrator was having sexual intercourse with her without her consent since she had passed out. The competing social work ethics are social justice and integrity ("Social Work: Core Values and Ethics," 2020). As a social worker, honesty and trustworthiness are crucial in facilitating relationships with the client and creating room to resolve issues. I am obligated to advocate for the rape victim and provide them with information and other resources necessary in seeking justice. As soon as she reported, I would open a case file and request civil protection to keep the offender away from the victim. The next step would be to take her to the hospital for immediate medical care to check for injury, prevent STIs and pregnancy, get counseling, and collect evidence ("Steps to take after a sexual assault," 2020). According to Guidelines and Strategies for Cultural Competency (2020), the strategy of recognizing and accepting responsibility is significant when charging the perpetrator.
In the second case study, the 13-year-old girl is having sex with her 13-year-old boyfriend. This is child molestation because, despite their giving consent, they are both under 14 years. The competing social work ethics are social service and the dignity of the person. Service involves addressing social ills and assisting other people using their skills and knowledge from education and experience ("Social Work: Core Values and Ethics," 2020). Being mindful of the clients is upholding their dignity while seeking solutions for their issues. The first step I would take would be to educate the two children on the meaning of sexual molestation and its physical, psychological, and legal consequences. The second step would be creating open communication channels between them and the adults that each trust. A strong support system will help them deal with the side effects of child molestation. According to Guidelines and Strategies for Cultural Competency ( 2020), the strategy of adaptation is relevant in modifying the laws to allow for the two to correct themselves.
