Research got conducted to review improvements that are viable and doable regarding the maintenance team's process under the operations department, specifically regarding the company's capacity. Data got collected through one-on-one interviews with five SATU employees who have had an average of 3.5 years of experience. Three out of the five interviewees hold an executive position while the other two hold non-executive technicians' places. Interviews mainly focused on the research objectives, which sought to understand SATU's operations department's current situation. The talk also focused on reviewing whether the company's maintenance team's current capacity is adequate in handling the maintenance process regarding the demands of care that are due and required to be conducted internally from time to time. Furthermore, the research focused on determining whether future improvements could be implemented to increase the maintenance team's current capacity and boost its efficiency.
The study's findings showed that SATU maintenance did not get correctly done than facility maintenance in the water industry. Care should get divided into three categories, and each type of maintenance should get done within a specific time frame. The findings also suggested that one reason why the maintenance process is not getting conducted correctly includes capacity management. For example, the inadequate number of staff, insufficient funding, and the upper management fail to apprehend the urgency of the specific maintenance that needs to get done. The findings show that maintenance staff does not fully understand the significance of each type of care.
Lack of training provided by the manufacturer would hinder the process of maintenances even further. Moving on to the available and viable improvements in increasing the maintenance process's current efficiency, which was asked to the participants, the participants' opinions and the answers collected are based on the participants' point of view. Firstly, the improvement that the participants anticipate is to have better preventive maintenance scheduling to overcome the current imbalance incapacity to demand ratio. Although they get suggested preventive maintenance schedules provided by the manufacturers, the maintenance team would prefer to arrange their preventive maintenance scheduling instead of working around with what is currently on their plate. This way, the preventive maintenance schedule would be set accordingly. The length of time between the maintenance dues would be decided based on the maintenance team's experience handling the available equipment.
The findings suggest that there has been a mix of reporting channels that have reached the maintenance team aside from the Service Desk system. These reports usually result in duplicate accounts hence creating false statements that would only impede and obstruct the maintenance team's efficiency. After that, a few of the participants insisted on requesting extra funding for the engineering department to increase the tools inventory as well as having additional funds. This move was so that it is possible to hire external contractors or vendors in times of emergency where, for instance, there are two or more major breakdown maintenances that need urgent attention. The maintenance staff does not fully understand the significance of each type of care. A questionnaire can get made to know how far their understanding is. The questionnaire will be distributed in bilingual, focused on the maintenance staff and the operations department that oversees the maintenance department.
Therefore, the company could invest in computerized management system software. This system will help the facility detect faulty equipment, schedule preventive maintenance, and prevent equipment breakdown. Computerized maintenance management system software will provide the facility with preventative care and serve as a platform for a work order to allow the facility's managers to effectively provide technically optimal and economical water treatment performance in the long term. In conclusion, the lack of prior research knowledge could be advantageous for future researchers. They may intend to have a more in-depth understanding of the works of operations management within SATU. Irrespective of the limitations to current research, the qualitative research method was chosen. The data analysis methods presented in the study are considered reliable and verifiable. Research in the future could also focus more on improvements in the operations department than the current research that has only focused on the maintenance team's maintenance process.
