This is a literary analysis mini-lesson for kindergarten students. By the end of this lesson, the kindergarteners should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the print concepts, phonological awareness, and phonics and word recognition and show fluency in reading. With prompts and support, the kids should be able to identify key ideas and details in a story, craft and structure and integrate knowledge and ideas.

To achieve this, a quality book collection should be availed. The books should be about interests, backgrounds, and experiences the children will relate to. Picture books, storybooks, poetry book, and factual books should be given out to the kids. Electronic aids can also be added to make reading fun and enhance vocabulary and language development.

The tutor should guide the children through the learning process by stimulating the children to ask questions, identify and describe the connection between events, ideas or individuals. The tutor should help the students describe the illustration in books and their relationship with the text. The tutor should encourage his class to engage in group-reading activities.

Writing Mini-lessons

This is a craft mini-lesson for kindergarten level. By the end of the lesson, the kindergarteners should be able to identify text types and purposes, use drawings, dictation and writing to compose pieces expressing their opinions, and create a poem, dramatization, artwork, or a response to an author or theme studied in class.

To achieve this, resources such as craft paper punches, dry erase boards, alphabet ink stamps, sandpapers letters, and alphabet pasting pieces. These materials provide the children with alternatives to explore and make writing fun.

By the end of the lesson, the kindergarteners should be able to demonstrate an understanding of phonological awareness and word recognition. The kindergarteners should understand difference between letters and words.

NEW YORK STATE STANDARDS:

In accordance with the New York State P-12 Common Core Learning Standards for English Language, Arts and Literacy (2011) for kindergartens, this mini lessons will helps students learn to "follow words from left to right, top to bottom and page by page and Recognize alphabet letters."(p.23)

MATERIALS/TECHNOLOGY:

Picture books, storybooks, alphabet charts. A book titled 50 Writing Mentor Text for Kindergarten. 1st, and second Grade will be instrumental in teaching about words and sentences.

INTRODUCTORY SCRIPT:

Today, we are going to learn how to read books. Reading happens everywhere, and every time so it is important you learn how to do it properly. Letters and words are the most important components of a sentence. Therefore, by tackling these component on our study, there will be an improvement on the latter

MINI LESSON PROCEDURES or ACTIVITIES:

Stimulate the children to ask questions, identify and describe the different alphabetical shapes on a chart. While discussing the subject orally in class, the chart are used as reference point. Also, picture book in classes in addition to simple assessments is used to measure the progress of these kindergarteners.

FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT:

Ask the students to identify all upper and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

CLOSING SCRIPT:

Now that you have learned the alphabets in print, we will base our next lesson on it. Make sure to practice the alphabets at home.

FOLLOW UP ACTIVITY-PRACTICING WHAT WAS LEARNED:

Ask the kindergartners to write the alphabet letters on the ground, both in lowercase and uppercase.

SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT:

By the end of the lesson, the kindergarteners should be able to distinguish a letter and a word. Also, they should be able to recite all alphabets and pronounce each letter correctly.

The incorporation of drawings in writing various nouns is meant to develop their understanding further.
