Furthermore, with adequate knowledge of what has come before us in the ground of learning, we will also be more self-reliant in our aptitude to evaluate what is, in veracity, development to their ground, and therefore, to define what needs to be done next to perceive more. As fellow teachers, there needs to be an understanding to improve scholars’ knowledge and growth. For this to happen, an individual should comprehend the time years and concepts of each era to study from the historical and build an effective education system for today (Samuelsson, 2019). This paper aims in discussing the explanation and modernism period, including a comparison of each, and biblical approach to the era in today’s society.

The explanation period as an era for European legislation, concepts, discipline, and broadcastings was being drastically reoriented. The explanation era was recognized as “The Period of Motive”. Philosophers of this time interrogated customary government department and incorporated the impression that humankind might be enriched through coherent amendment. Educational thinkers prefer the educational system rationalized. The U.S and French rebellions were openly stimulated by explanation principles. Conversely, in modernism period learning was not a priority. In the modernism period, learning is acknowledged as a personal requirement. Both periods in history provided several contrasts and similarities that are unmistakable.

Explanation Period

The explanation period was a phase that rational discussion shook the bedrock of learning in Europe and transformed the scenery of learning indefinitely. This era was when discipline flourished and rebellions transpired. During this time major, numerous philosophies became prevalent. There was a growth of cynicism concerning sovereigns, and predominantly the supreme monarchy. Individuals during this era grew worn out of mystical powers having resilient radical authority and the impression of spiritual liberty was becoming further widespread (Jarus, 2019). The explanation created many manuscripts, articles, discoveries, technical detections, regulations, conflicts and rebellions. The U.S and French rebellions were straight stimulated by explanation principles and correspondingly noticeable the top of its impact and the start of its deterioration (History, 2019). The explanation period was vital because educational thinkers desired and practice to improve humanity through new ideas, reason, and science. During this period, there were many influential thinkers and figures. However, one can see the explanation as not one single, unified area. Personal explanation philosophers frequently had very dissimilar tactics. These thinkers include Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Thomas Jefferson, Mary Wollstonecraft, and Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi.

This period was also a phase of spiritual and anti-spirituality novelty as believers strive for reposition their devotion besides coherent appearances and deists and materialists disputed that the universe appeared to define its progression minus God’s involvement (History, 2019). During the eighteenth century, Mary Wollstonecraft was considered extraordinary for a woman during this particular period. Mary was not frightened to confront customary institutes and conformist philosophy. Wollstonecraft was considered an enlightened woman for the period that creates the relegation of females in a male-subjugated culture to be particularly burdensome” (Peters, 2019).

During the explanation period, education was the most influential mechanism in building a just culture where men and women can define their own lives. Mary established her plan for a nationwide educational structure. She saw that means and women were reasoning and expressively the same, thus, boys and girls should similar rather than different learning. This plan begins with schools that are sponsored by the government to be free to children from the age of five to 9 years old. This particular age range was very important and should stand-in an intellect of impartiality. At the age of nine all schoolchildren were placed into institutes based upon their academic ability and foreseen abilities. Within her plan on national education, girls would still receive teachings in the topics of sex precise abilities, such as sewing, embroidery, and millinery. Students in the lower-achieving or lower-socioeconomic status were sent to vocational schools and then into the workforce. Students with higher intelligence or higher socio-economic status were able to attend an academic school for further studies.

Another philosopher of this period was Thomas Jefferson, third president of the U.S. Even though Thomas Jefferson was a politician, he made great strides within the realm of education. The explanation era heavily influenced Thomas Jefferson that inspired him to create the writing go of the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson shaped many thoughts of individuals by this thinking of human rights to freedom, life, and to choose their government. Jefferson was also responsible for much advancement in education policy. He established the University of Virginia and created Bill or Establishing Religious Freedom. This bill argued for the separation of church and state, and reduced the level of control the church has over higher education.

Modernism Period

This period includes the notion of understanding from learning philosophers. During this period, many enlightening philosophers influenced learning and the version we still have today. Modernity is the denial of the conquest time’s civilizations and the assessment of industrial-age, actual subjects, and syndicates a refutation of the ancient days with carrying out tests, occasionally for radical resolutions (History, 2018). This era could be accredited to new liberty appreciated by artists. In the past, an artist would be custom-built by a sponsor to generate a precise part of the sculpture. During this era, there were several painters skilled in having more time to follow topics in their concerns. Sensibility twisted the study of human familiarities innermost and heartened a more theoretical type of education, which stimulated the pictorial sculptures to follow (History, 2018). Technology also saw a shift with the formation of new resources and procedures in art-marking, experimentation became more possible.

Horace Mann, an American educator during this time era, was the earliest great supporter of community learning. Horace assumed that learning should be unrestricted and worldwide, equal, self-governing in-process, and dependent on proficiently trained lecturers (Cremin, 2019). Under the belief of the Unitarian church, Horace constructed an institution to advance his society. He was a believer in positive reinforcement instead of negative within the classroom. John Mill was also a follower of utilitarianism guidelines. He saw these as a way of bringing happiness among humanity. Utilitarianism is a moral theory that concentrates on one’s effect and treats it as unimportant. John Mills trusted his theory of coaching and development to all people. He was also a defender of women’s equality.

Comparison

Both the explanation and modernism era had a great number of remarkable thinkers and wanted to improve education and change in the way individuals think. Both eras gave a focus on understanding the goodness of the progress of enclaving their knowledge and development. Individuals are always afraid of change. Individuals during these eras were afraid of the change and possible removal of kings. During both time eras humanity as a whole saw improvement. Education was changed for the better among these periods. Education was a focus because to change the future there must be a focus on the generations to come. How to reach those individuals is by improving the education system of that period.

Biblical Worldview Analysis

“Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart” Psalms 37:4). It is interesting to reflect ton thinkers of both time eras, the Enlightenment and Modernity. Regardless of the period, each educational thinker desired to improve humanity and make a society that bought into their particular theory. However, as Christians we should be able to see there is only one true theory to follow, and that can be found through Christ. The Bible also reiterates that our joy cannot be found in worldly possessions because our joy and hope is found through Christ. That is a similar theme expressed through each educational thinker of each time era. They believed that one can only be happy based on tier actions.

A Christian worldview has implications for understanding history. This allows us not to see history as random or cyclical. Instead, history can be seen as linear with meaningful events leading to the fulfillment of God’s purposes for humanity (Capps, 2013). For Wollstonecraft, she challenged the normal thinking of this period in regards to women’s rights. The Bible does say that a woman is to be submissive to her husband. However, over time, this particular command has been misinterpreted to allow the man to make their wife agree with all their decisions and actions, regardless of the appropriateness of them.

Women during this time were not educated as a man would be and was not allowed to speak up if the disagreed. When evaluating Wollstonecraft’s plan for national education, it is interesting that she still includes the girls learning the traditional skills of the period. This particular sex precise prospectus only implemented to lower-socioeconomic status girls. This would lead one to believe that Wollstonecraft made her assumptions when it came to the socioeconomic status of individuals, regardless of gender. However, modern-day education has a major focus on the growth mindset, that focuses on shifting our thoughts from we cannot do something to we can do something. For some students, they may understand concepts easily, but for others, they will need to work harder and longer to further themselves in their academic journey. Since Wollstonecraft focused more on gender equality, she tends to lose sight of the equality for that entire she often wrote about in her books and essays.

Conclusion

The ground of learning is continuously transforming and we can still see the effects of the explanation and modernism era. These two historical periods gives evidence that progress in learning and humanity, in general, is important. To support and enhance one’s learning and development, there must be freedom and resources in one socioeconomic status. Even though the educational thinkers were many years ago their roles, research, and writings that have been put into place in still influencing educators and society today.
