The use of the Internet of Things by the government and public sector institutions has greatly increased service delivery efficiency. Modern technology use in offices and institutions has led to better service and improved value. Both the government and public service sectors have greatly employed technology to better internal operations, and public relations, and manage organizational resources more effectively (Bertino et al., 2016). The use of modern technology has enabled the government to identify and respond to citizens' demands.
The use of advanced technology has made it easy for the government to collect and manage data about citizens, which results in more efficient services in public offices (Bertino et al., 2016). Through integrated systems, the government can keep and manage data about the servants, policies, and programs, making it possible to improve service delivery. Public services are now easy to control through monitoring using the Internet of Things. For instance, in developed countries, the government has already introduced and used the smart parking service to control and coordinate the service (Usak et al., 2020).
The Internet of Things has also streamlined law enforcement and internal security (Yavari et al., 2016). For instance, the US Department of Defence uses this technology to sense and detect weapons in items that people procure and transport (Yavari et al., 2016). Technology has also made it possible for the police to detect a gunshot made at some distance and locate it, protecting the officers. It is also easy for police officers to track identified criminals through modern technology. (Yavari et al., 2016). The application of technology has, therefore, made policing easy and more effective.
Automation has made citizens get services in public and government institutions very fast (Yavari et al., 2016). The government offices can provide services that used to take days in a few hours since the data is stored electronically (Yavari et al., 2016). The online system also builds more confidence of citizens in government services as the internet and computers are more transparent than people.
