Biomedical engineering is one of the most important professions in the field of medicine. It is also referred to as BioMed or bioengineering, and it combines the knowledge of biology and engineering. This profession applies the materials and principles of engineering to facilitate service delivery healthcare. Biomedical engineers play an important role in handling medical devices. This field has been my dream since my childhood, I was involved in troubleshooting and fixing some of the devices and household appliances when I was young, and as a result, I became interested in the field of engineering especially when my tutor suggested that with engineering, everything is possible in the universe (Bai et al. 2018). This paper reflects on how I am passionate about Biomedical engineering.
My interest in biomedical engineering developed right from my young age; I became so interested as my professional career because of its unique application of scientific skills in the field of medicine. It is one of the most trending disciplines in medicine that attracts more research and developments. Installation, maintenance, and repair of biomedical equipment is my favorite part of this career. There is an increasing demand for biomedical engineers to ensure better sustainability in healthcare (Glasgow et al. 2018). My preferred part of this career has always remained instrumental in overcoming challenges involved in this field. It is possible that the roots and the interest that I got in this field, and my fascination came from the positive attitude that I have towards my career.
The field of engineering involves different activities such as coming up with new ideas and innovations, and therefore, biomedical engineering has narrowed its focus and interest in innovating and improving healthcare services (Bai et al. 2018). Analyzing and designing ways of solving problems involved in healthcare is one of the core functions of biomedical engineering. As a result of the day, today, the use of medical equipment and technology in the field of medicine has led to high demand for biomedical engineers. For this perspective, biomedical engineering proves to be important, and I have remained focused and passionate about it. Repair and maintenance of medical equipment are one of the sub-disciplines in the field of biomedical engineering which takes concepts and principles of design in combination to handle problems associated with medical equipment's (Jain & Garg, 2018). It closes the gap between medicine and engineering by combining problem-solving skills with biological science.
Working as a biomedical engineer in a hospital is an interesting experience in my career. Maintaining and repairing medical equipment like defibrillators, wheelchairs, beds, MRI machines, and other imaging equipment are some of the important roles required of a BioMed engineer. Effectiveness of these roles has contributed to quality services in healthcare. Doctors and other medical attendants require the medical equipment technicians in order to ensure sustainable and good working condition (Glasgow et al. 2018). Performing regular inspections, planned maintenance, repairs, and calibrations has substantially built my experience in the field of biomedical engineering. It is important for one to have competence, experience in repairing mechanical, electronic, electromechanical, and computer medical devices in this profession. These equipment are required to provide proper diagnosis and other medical services sufficiently, and therefore, biomedical engineers play a significant role in ensuring that all these requirements are met.
Conclusion
In conclusion, biomedical engineering is one of the essential disciplines in the field of medicine. It ensures quality and sustainable healthcare services through the installation, maintenance, and repair of medical equipment. This profession has always been my dream, and as a result, I have developed a lot of experience and interest in this field. Repair and maintenance of medical equipment act as the most interesting part in BioMed. Competence, passion, and focus have greatly contributed to my success in this field.
