One agrees that Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP) refers to advanced practice in nursing with one aim with a clinical focus of managing adolescents and adults who have advanced in age (Thomas et al.,2017). For one to be an AGNP nurse, one should obtain more specialized education in the clinical area like fluency, expertise regarding health, advanced clinical decisions, and more knowledge and experience on how to handle and manage the complexities of older adults.
Also, with the AGNP, it means that the nurse practitioner has an added advantage. For example, one becomes more independent in that one can work practicing privately without any prior supervision from a physician (Thomas et al.,2017). Thus, one can easily administer holistic health care to the patient (RodrĂguez, 2020). Since the AGNP works on a broader perspective, this means that the practitioner nurse can acquire varied opportunities and be able to choose one specialty for them to pursue. For example, a nurse may choose to focus on a more acute care specialty in a hospital setting (Zhou et al.,2018). Here the nurse will acquire more knowledge on how to stabilize the patient, prevent further complications that may occur when administering care to the patient. Also, the nurse practitioner will be able to restore and provide maximum palliative care to the patient.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) refers to a nurse who has a master's certificate or practice- focused doctor of nursing practice degree. The APRN nurses are licensed through the medical boards of various states to provide patient care, prescribe drugs, and also practice independently (RodrĂguez, 2020). With the APRN, nurses can choose to specialize in various fields. It will help them administer primary and acute healthcare to the patients.
With the AGNP, the practitioner nurse will be able to achieve many goals that are necessary in the nursing field, for example, diagnosis, administering drugs, giving patients prescriptions, and also gaining more knowledge on the referral of the patient (RodrĂguez, 2020). Many rules and statutes of various states tend to require one to understand their roles as a nurse practitioner.
