The movie After the Wedding explicitly reveals the economic misfortunes and social limitations of contemporary society and the resultant predicaments that come with the package. The current situation in the society has pitted various individuals against dilemma-filled and counteracting conditions that need careful cross-examination, critical thinking, and informed decision making. In the current society, many people have been made to make choices concerning what issues to prioritize among their family, commitment to others and their financial and personal issues. The quest for affluence can be sometimes overwhelming and has underlying devastating consequences.
After the Wedding Analysis
The choice of a family is a necessary decision one has to make in life. The family has been long regarded as a basic unit of the society; as well as an important aspect in the development of an individual. The family becomes a better experience with a proper mechanism of maintenance and support financially, emotionally and through physical support. The failure of the provision of the above-outlined kinds of support can lead to devastating effects on the family and even further affect the society and the world. On a daily basis family members are forced to ponder on how to balance each of the support strategies without underserving the other. The members have to choose amongst looking for financial means of supporting the family; being physically present with the family and their commitment to the other non-family issues and society as well. However fulfilling it may seem, involvement in activities of charity and foreign aid are with no doubt taxing and come at the expense of family comfort. It is with this condition that Jacob seemingly abandoned his family and country support to commit to services and aid in an Indian orphanage. The result of such a situation can be devastating and haunt in an individual’s life. In the movie, the devastating effects of a broken and non-existent family are seen through the existence of orphanages and quest for financial aid. (Stafford, Roy)
Poverty in the society directly emanates from common misfortunes within the families that make up that society. Poverty is manifested by lack of basic needs or the methods to acquire them where necessary. Poor housing, clothes, and hunger are all signs of poverty that may require some financial interventions. The remedies that are widely adopted to counteract poverty in the society include foreign financial aid, relief food provision and the establishment of orphanages to support orphans and children from humble backgrounds.
The cause and motive of engagement of an individual in societal commitments and charities are of great concern in the movie. One would engage in charitable works in the society owing to their significant financial capability and availability of surplus income. Sometimes these acts are seen as ways to give back to the community and have deep divine connections better understood by the donating individuals. However, these are not avenues to atone an individual’s past mistakes, family flops, and bitterness. This seems to be the motive behind Jacob’s engagement in the service and aid in the Indian orphanage. (After the Wedding)It is neither an avenue for gaining satisfaction after a failed social life. The engagement of an individual in charitable activities should be driven by an already happy and joyful heart that seeks to extend the satisfaction and joy to other people who may not have got it where they deserved to. They should be good social images capable of transforming a socially mitigated flop into a happy experience. The bargain price for charity aids should also be explicitly examined and done under real motives. Jorgen’s intention in assisting Jacob in with foreign aid is cunning and malicious. Vengeful, malicious and cunning plans can be misleading and undeserving for a charity aid. However massive a donation can be, the underlying intentions are vital and should be noble and well-meant. The process of attaining a foreign aid should not be as taxing as Jacob had to go through.
After the Wedding Movie Review
Matrimonial lives are also viewed to be very casual this day and largely dependent on resource availability from either couple. According to the movie, gone are the long days where weddings were a symbol of strong bonds and long-lasting marriages. Sacrifices are hard to come by in marriages, and a couple would rather pursue another easier marriage course at the expense of their current one. To make matters worse, the marriages are not about children and some couples would not care to know if they had kids until they are forced to by circumstance beyond their control. Generally, the movie portrays the marriage negatively as it is portrayed in the current society.
At the end of the day of every individual’s life, it is quite vital to evaluate whether they are happy and satisfied with that life. To some it is family unions, others financial prowess and yet still others wallow in the delight of making life good for others. Of great importance is the opportunity cost of engagement in particular activities in life; that is, the matter at stake. The extent to which an individual can make sacrifices to attain satisfaction for other individuals in the society should be moderate and rational. Commitment to building a high society and a better world can be unfruitful if the core and most great unit, the family, is not put in an appropriate order. The negligence of basic, yet vital responsibilities can prove detrimental to the ambitions and noble intents of the development of an entire society and the world.
