Stephen is a re-known geologist interested in origins. Using knowledge on geology, he seeks to understand the geodynamical and geochemical aspects of the earth. During his live talk at the University, Stephen was keen to explain his reasoning on the origin of the earth, based on geophysics, geochemistry, and astrophysics.

The talk was a very interactive session that made me realize how sophisticated the origin of life can be. I am a believer who has known that God created the world, and all that happens in it is his doing. However, the facts presented during the talk made me understand there is more to life than what the normal man sees. Life is made of science: chemistry, biology, and physics. The interaction of these three creates magnificence. They all interact in different spheres, yet in equal measure, to create life. He is a cheerful man who is an excellent and very well informed speaker and scientist, so following through the talk was easy. The details of geology that he revealed were intriguing.

To make the nonprofessional understand these happenings, Stephen used the simplest terms to explain the chemistry, astrophysics, and biology of the earth. According to Mojzsis, life originated from changes on the earth surface such as falling comets, weathering of rocks, chemical emissions, and evaporation of volatile substances from below the ground. Morphological changes in sulfur, hydrogen sulfide and carbon are responsible for the formation of oxygen. Gases were dissolved in the molten lava from volcanoes. Thus these morphological changes resulted in the release of oxygen and other gases into the atmosphere, which marked the beginning of life. At the same time, physics played a role in maintaining the temperature of earth constant to prevent excessive warming and keep water in liquid form, while maintaining constant pressure.

Liquid water is the source of all life and was the origin of plant life. With a constant range of temperature, the biology came into being with photosynthesis. The gases emitted from lava-included carbon (IV) oxide, which is necessary for photosynthesis. Greenhouse gases, water vapor in the air and methane served to reduce the severity of the sunrays, which made plant life sustainable. From plants, animals can obtain food.

All in all, that is a simplified version of how geochemistry, physics, and biology interacted to create life. Evolution of life is still going on, influenced by environmental conditions. The environment naturally selects living organisms, just as Charles Darwin has suggested in his evolution theory.

Doctor Stephen's speech was a revelation of how geochemistry and astrophysics shape human conditions. A loss of balance between these two results in interference with life on earth. In connection to this, it gave me an insight into how human activities that interfere with natural processes play a role in global warming. While some natural calamities are driven by nature, most of them are as a result of human activities. The theory of Dr. Stephen on the origin of life is an illustration of the power of nature. When interfered with, nature is unforgiving and turns against the human race. From the talk, I was challenged to research more on how humans, in a bid to make their lives more comfortable, were interfering with the evolution process. The forces and processes of nature cannot be ignored, thus I resolved that in my small world, I would advocate for responsible environmental management. It might not save the whole world, but I will have made my little impact on respecting nature.
