Introduction

Over the last decades, poverty has been a complex issue. It has been associated with many aspects hence many causes. The most common definition of poverty emphasizes economic poverty. This concept measures poverty by how much money an individual earns and creates poverty rates for societies and nations based on the financial poverty line and income. Poverty can be defined best by addressing diverse poverty categories and accepting that poverty is illiteracy and no admission to school, starvation, deficiency of housing, and feeling helpless and surrounded by things outside control. This paper aims at discussing the causes of poverty. The causes of poverty will be discussed using the cause strategy. The structural and cultural approaches are used to understand the causes of poverty.

The structural method identifies the systemic causes of poverty (Ghys et al., 337). Some of the factors decreasing the chance to increase financial uncertainty include; discrimination of gender present around the society and organizations, the return purpose, and resulting from inadequate salaries, making it tough for families to escape poverty and inadequate investment in schooling, insurance, and healthcare. Failure to correct these differences results in poverty creation (Ghys et al.,339). The structural causes of poverty have been referred to be the root cause of poverty, for example, in some western countries.

Poverty is never recognized by all the people emphasizing the structural causes of poverty. The structural causes of poverty are to some extent focused on the heritable differences between people and barriers to opportunities in institutions. There is a reasonable case that should consider that different starting points influence where an individual finally end (Ghys et. al., 344). In simple terms, bad luck can be associated with determining where one may end up in life. It is therefore difficult to conclude that poverty is solely caused by structural factors.

Without lessening the fact that institutions, structures, and systems may help in explaining poverty, some of the other individual's highlight behavior, personal differences, and culture as the main foundation of the poverty experienced in the societies. According to this argument, some behaviors and attitudes or poverty principles are passed on from parents to siblings and tend to prolong bad decisions, hence causing poverty (Addae-Korankye 149). Attitudes such as rejection and fatalism of societal norms such as rationality and hard work make most poor people unattractive in marriage, resulting in less proficient parents. It does not mean that low-income individuals counterattack their attitudes but insist that every individual is responsible for their life. The structural approach to explaining poverty is highly rejected. No system in humans' history is responsible for lifting human beings out of poverty, as discussed here. Class is the only system that has provided poor individuals an opportunity to gain access to a decent life (Addae-Korankye and Alex 152). Racism and patriarchy are not some of the convincing explanations for poverty in the current century.

To sum up, poverty can be resolved by personal differences through the use of characteristics such as appearance and intelligence and some attributes such as hard work and self-control. Although some individuals are born with privileges, they must practice the above characteristics and attributes to evade poverty.

Summary

The paper develops a framework for discussing poverty causes that are mainly associated with economics and psychology. When discussing poverty, we mean a situation of severe deprivation where a particular individual may not acquire one or more basic needs. This paper suggests that poverty is first caused by a mix up of choice and luck.

The bad luck illustrates that one cannot avoid poverty since no one can evade the situation that one finds themself. For instance, people who live in extreme weather events such as floods and droughts and those in the middle of war areas result from bad luck. The primary determinant factor of the life of a child involves how parents nurtures the kid. Genetics and other exogenous events such as opportunities and illness are necessary and more likely in luck. Some individuals resist the suggestion that poor people are responsible for their poverty. However, many are associated with poverty, but a small portion of individuals remain in poverty for the long term.

There Is no single person who chooses where to end up in life, but as one grows from childhood, this is the stage where one begins assuming more autonomy over life. The best choices made in one’s life result in positive effects hence living comfortably. Failure to have the best choices in life end up having bad outcomes that result in poverty. Some of the bad choices made in one’s life are the critical dominant causes of poverty. For example, in countries such as the united states and Canada and nations welfare are the enablers of poverty.
