Nursing is a profession that thrives on a collaborative approach. As a way of ensuring enhanced service delivery, nurses are presented with the responsibility of working together with technology specialists and nursing informaticists for the purpose of ensuring that service delivery flows smoothly (Pordeli, 2017). When patients visit a healthcare facility, the receptionist or medical record expert receives them and directs them to the appropriate practitioner after obtaining the details of the patient. The patient is sent to the triage where critical information about the patient is obtained, which includes the identification of various patient issues that may require urgency for the patient. Issues like sugar levels, body mass index (BMI), and blood pressure in a patient have to be evaluated by practitioners, with results recorded on the patient’s file (Pordeli, 2017).
The enhancement of the various interactions with a patient requires the integration of technology, which helps speed up the various processes undergone by patients while also eliminating unwanted delays, which may increase medical costs or contribute to medical errors (Hussey & Kennedy, 2016). From the moment a patient is admitted to the triage to the time of meeting a physician or nurse, effective electronic transit of patient information is important in eliminating delays and smoothening service delivery, reducing medical costs, and enhancing both the provider’s and patient’s satisfaction. Due to the increasing specialty of nursing informatics evolution, it may be argued that the nursing profession will be tremendously enhanced in the coming days. This is because most of the manual activities will be eliminated. Collaborative interactions that are currently faced in the provision of healthcare services will lead to significant improvements in quality, productivity, and reduction in medical costs (Hardiker et al., 2019). By embracing advanced technologies, professional interactions in the healthcare industry will facilitate easier execution of critical health processes within minimal time and without compromising quality (Brazelton, Knuckles & Lyons, 2017). To this end, service delivery will be tremendously improved in healthcare facilities.
