Step 1: Committee Formation and Prospectus Development
The dissertation committee is tasked with the responsibility of examining the student's work, determining whether the dissertation is accepted, and arranging for the oral defense of the dissertation (Storey & Hesbol, 2016; University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, 2020; University of Washington, 2020). Step 1 of the dissertation process is comprised of six components. First, the researcher reviews the program of the study and carries out a discussion with his or her academic advisors to establish when the prospectus should be started. Because I plan to complete the dissertation a soon as possible, the review of the program will be made in 1 week. Second, the researcher obtains his or her dissertation supervisory committee assignment. This will take a maximum of 2 weeks following the review of the program.
The third step involves completion of the prospectus to ascertain that all the quality indicators have been captured. The process will take 1 week. Fourth, committee members should evaluate the prospectus to determine whether it meets the criteria set by the university (Raymond, 2020) - which will take approximately 2 weeks. Upon approval, the program director receives a workflow notification. Lastly, the prospectus review is completed by the program director within 2 weeks. Overall, Committee Formation and Prospectus Development will take a total of 2 months.
Step 2: Proposal Development and Approval Process
A research proposal justifies the need for the study suggest ways of conducting the study (Setia & Panda, 2017; Sudheesh, Duggappa, & Nethra, 2016). In the second step of the dissertation, I will first work with my full committee to ensure that I finish the first three chapters of my dissertation proposal in the shortest time possible. I hope to complete the proposal within the 2 months. To ensure that my research methods are aligned with the PhD Dissertation Template (6th ed.), I will use the Dissertation Checklist found in the PhD Dissertation Resources (Walden University, 2020c). Second, following the completion of the dissertation proposal and readiness for review by the committee, it will be uploaded to Taskstream. Additionally, a plagiarism report from Turnitin will also be attached along with the Dissertation Checklist.
Third, following the approval of my proposal by the committee tasked with supervising my dissertation, the Chairman of the committee ensures that the Dissertation Minimum Standards Rubrics from every member of the committee are reconciled. The Chairman then attaches the proposal in the Taskstream along with the plagiarism report from Turnitin and the Dissertation Checklist to be completed by the researcher. I will complete the Dissertation Checklist within the first 2 weeks of approval of my dissertation proposal.
Fourth, if there are amendments that come from the URR, I will ensure that I work swiftly with my dissertation Chairman and second committee member to address all the revisions and submit the paper once again to the Taskstream. This process will be completed in 1 month. Fifth, after the revised proposal has been approved, I will proceed to the oral conference within 1 month of the availability of my committee members to conduct an oral conference. Next, after my participation and passing of the oral conference, I will make any revisions on my dissertation proposal within 2 weeks of oral presentation. Therefore, Proposal Development and Approval Process will take a total of 5 months.
Step 3: IRB Approval Process and Data Collection
The first phase of IRB Approval Process and Data Collection involves completion of IRB application along with the feedback from my Chairman within 2 weeks. Second, following the approval of my proposal, the IRB application will be forwarded to University's IRB email address along with all the supplemental materials (Walden University, 2020d). Any revisions to the document requested by the IRB will be completed within 2 weeks. Following this, I will obtain the approval and notification to carry out the study. I will conduct the study within 3 months. Lastly, I will then prepare the final dissertation by updating my proposal in the past tense. Therefore, Proposal Development and Approval Process will take a total of 4 months.
Step 4: Dissertation Completion and Approval Process
The first step of the Dissertation Completion and Approval Process involves working with my dissertation committee to ensure that the completion of the last two chapters of my dissertation is completed within 2 months. This will be done using the dissertation checklist found in the Writing Center website (Walden University, 2020a). After the document is completed and ready to be reviewed by my committee, I will put it in the Taskstream along with a plagiarism report from Turnitin and a checklist of the dissertation. Following the approval of the dissertation by the committee tasked with supervising my dissertation, the Chairman of the committee ensures that the Dissertation Minimum Standards Rubrics from every member of the committee are reconciled. The final thesis is then attached in the Taskstream, along with a checklist of the dissertation.
Any revisions requested will be done within 1 month, and the dissertation resubmitted to the Taskstream. Next, after the approval of the dissertation, the Form and Style review will be undertaken (Walden University, 2020b). Any revisions on the form and style will be done within a day. At this time, I will submit my graduation application. After approval of the revised dissertation, I will proceed to the oral conference within 2 weeks of the availability of my committee members to conduct an oral conference. Following my oral presentation, I will complete any requested revisions within 1 month and submit it for URR final quality review. If the quality review requires changes, I will finish it in 2 weeks.
Step 5: Final Steps Before Graduation
The final stages of the dissertation process comprise of submission of the abstract to the chief academic officer (CAO) and confirmation of receipt. Any revisions requested by the CAO will be addressed within 1 month and resubmitted to Taskstream. Following the approval of the revised dissertation, I will submit the final document to ProQuest.
