Introduction
From the water that is consumed daily to the way that we commute to school, or work, infrastructure is at the center of it and is used to fuel the engine that sustains human life. Infrastructure has the power to shape the environment for good if utilized in the right way and the contrary for ill if not tailored in the right way. As the population internationally expands, urbanization accelerates, and the sprawling of the middle classes in the developing nation's demand for more goods and services, there is more need for proper utilization of infrastructure. Therefore, I believe that the food and agricultural sector, the health and public health sectors as well as transportation systems sector are the three most critical infrastructure sectors that, in their absence, the united states would be crippled (U.S. Department of Homeland security, 2018).
Agricultural Sector
The food and agricultural sector are one of the largest and most important sectors in any country and particularly in the united states. Agriculture is the largest employer to millions of people in the united states in addition to being the source of most of the foods produced in the united states. The increasing or the expanding population needs food security to support the development of the economy (U.S. Department of Homeland security, 2018). However, this sector of the united states can not survive on its own, and therefore the transportation system is very critical.
Transportation System
Through the transportation system, the workers can arrive at the farms; the employees can reach their workplace, children can go to school, and most importantly, the agricultural products can reach the market place through the transportation system, cities, towns, and industries. Transportation is critical as it is the instigator of urbanization and therefore strengthens the economy (U.S. Department of Homeland security, 2018). Through the development and the proper utilization of the transportation system sector, the health care amenities are distributed effectively in the united states.
Public Health
The statement that a healthy citizen makes a healthy nation is what healthcare and public health sector. This sector of the economy is essential as it shields all other sectors of the economy from natural disasters, threats, the outbreak of communicable ailments (U.S. Department of Homeland security, 2018). The healthcare sector ensures that the entire population is healthy. The safety of the population ensures that people can work, and this is essential in the strengthening of the United States economy.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it is essential to note the economy is very complex, and it operates as an engine. Therefore, all the 16 critical infrastructure sectors available in the united states are essential. Any fault in one of them can be severe impacts on the economy. However, it is my opinion that the three selected sectors are more critical than the rest as they form the basis for the development of the rest.
