Introduction
Bob, a Travel nurse, works at a private hospital. The primary duty of Bob as a Travel Nurse is to assist all kind of patients despite having other duties to partake include that of administering medication to the patients, among others. Bob also ensures that he direct the patients on the nutritional meal that they are obliged to take. However, Bob also takes a temporal task typically for around 13 weeks then begins to travel from one location to another. Therefore, Bob does not have a specific place where he can stay to work since he keeps on having some calls to relocate. He further says that helping the patients is one of the best things that he likes and he is committed to.
What was the reason for selecting this nurse leader for the interview?
The main reason why I selected Bob as a Nurse leader for an interview was because of the focus as well as specific experiences and also accomplishments he has. I have also wanted to evaluate his work ethic as well as the attitude he has on this work. In most cases, he is always committed to working (Dauenhauer, 2018). That way, it interests me in interviewing him so that I can understand what makes him commit most of his time working.
Majority of individual don't pay attention to the workplaces they are based at. Therefore, this gives me the desire to inquire from Bob why he likes getting committed to his work. These were also the objectives of the interview. More so, I had the objective to understand better who Bob was in terms of personality as well as character and also interests. Based on the work that Bob does, I also was eager to understand why he chose to work from place to place and not settling in one place to work from there. Bob also says that he likes to ensure that the welfare of the patients is well catered of. On that, I wanted to understand whether or not does Bob gets in touch with his patient even after he takes care of them. Does he make a follow up to understand whether they are doing well from what he advised or not?
What is the nurse leader’s leadership style?
Bob has different leadership styles. Among them are as explained below. The first leadership style that Bob partakes is autocratic. In this type of leadership style, Bob will always focus on what he thinks is right for him (Dauenhauer, 2018). He does not have to contact others as a way to confirm whether he is doing the right thing or not. Bob believes in himself and also beliefs that everything that he does is the right thing and should do so.
Autocratic style of leadership may not be quiet good although Bob says that it is the best for him as he always set and thinks before he proceeds to do something by himself. That way, he will believe that whatever he wants to do is right and ends up succeeding. On the same, Bob likes using affiliative leadership style. It is essential since in most cases, as well as scenarios he first gives the patient the time to express themselves. After listening to them, he goes further to evaluate them and help them accordingly.
Leadership strengths and weaknesses
Everyone has some of his strengths as a leader as well as the weakness. As a leader, some of my strength is as discussed below. Honesty, as well as integrity, is one key strength of leadership that Bob embrace. Being honest helps a leader to be open primarily to all the individuals about all the weakness as well as the strength that the leadership place partake. You cannot expect to be the best leader yet you are not open to the individual. Confidence is the second key strength. You are obliged to be confident to ensure that the others listen to you and also follows your directives. In case as a leader, you are not sure about yourself in the decisions that you partake then your subordinates will also never listen to you or follow you. Bob likes also inspiring others as a leader. Persuading others to follow is one of the most challenging tasks for a leader to persuade. Setting a good example can be the only solution to inspiring others. In the most situation, when the going gets tough, the individuals around you will look at you to see what will be your nest move. Once you handle the situation in the best manner or way, then they will always follow you. As a leader, I embrace thinking positive, and by doing so, this positivity Bob portrays it to the individuals through my actions.
As customary everyone partakes weakness despite having strengths. Lack of trust on my client is one of the weakness that Bob poses. Once Bob attends a client mostly Bob doubt whether they will follow my guidelines or not. It is a weakness since it makes an individual lose the courage to keep on advising others. Secondly, it is trying to be like others. As a leader, you are not supposed to copy the lifestyles of the other individual's whether leaders or not. It makes an individual forget about what they are focused to get and embrace to follow others a situation that ends up resulting failure of an individual.
The situation during the career when you made a communication error and how you resolved it
Bob says that communication error is made by everyone based on everyday interactions with the clients. One of the communication error that Bob did was to advise a patient to take medicine multiple times that was not supposed to be done in that case. Bob says that on his record, he takes the record of the patients that he attends (Williams & Enright, 2020). After the patient had left, he realized he had wrongly advised them. Therefore it was his duty to reach out to the patient and advise accordingly, and precisely that is ho Bob did being so embarrassed.
How would you resolve a conflict with coworker, patient, or physician?
The only way to resolve the conflict with the staff member is listening to them first before giving your feedback to them. It is good always to pay attention to others that way; you can establish the base of the conflict so that both of you can figure out how to resolve the matter (Luyten & Bazo 2019). For a patient, please remain calm to them and ask them to pay attention to you so that you can help them. Being calm is the only best way to resolve the conflict since once you embrace the behaviour of not arguing, even the other involved party will be calm and quiet.
How do you manage stress at work?
In every working place, some thoughtful issues disturb individuals. Bob says that for him to manage the stress, he embraces on the act rather than reacting (Luyten & Bazo 2019). Bob says that stress is only experienced when the individual involved feels that the situation is out of control.
What do you believe is the role of leadership in fostering a healthy workplace?
The role of leadership in health workplace ensures that they involve influencing group's activities as well as coping with the change. For any workplace health program to be of success, leadership plays a vital role. Leadership commitment, as well as support, may communicate purpose as well as the process of the workplace health program to every level of organization.
How does critical thinking influence decision-making observe during the activity or for the person interviewed?
Critical thinking involves thinking deep before coming up with the judgment. From Bob's interview, this will influence decision making since, as a leader, you will first have to critically analyze a problem before coming up with a judgement that mostly helps the majority of individuals solve issues of any kind.
How are teamwork and collaboration fostered?
Teamwork and collaboration may be fostered by posting each team member for success by giving them the task they can best handle (Williams & Enright, 2020). Rewarding the individuals and also ensuring that collaboration remains consistent as well as purposeful partaking resources dedicated to its success.
Some of the essential communication skills used during the interview were respect, brevity, listening skills, confidence, and friendliness.
The nurse leader's position impacts my nursing practice by emphasizing and showing that the welfare of others is the only thing that I should focus on. More so, the love of what you do and lastly commitment to everything involving the nursing role.
