Amazon is online shopping where customers buy music, electronics, books, videos, computers shoes, software, furniture, and beauty and personal care. Amazon.com is the world's leading online store that sells almost everything at a much better price and does free delivery services to all customers. The organization has employed over 97, 000 workers and earns over 60 billion dollars per year. Amazon is a big organization and deals with complex orders globally hence its information systems are unique in processing, analyzing and storing data. To keep their customers, Amazon notifies them about the existence of better or similar products in their stores. They do their advertisements online through websites and other social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. There are three main information systems used by Amazon and they include Supply Chain Management (SCM), Customer Relations Management (CRM) and Enterprise Resource Management (ERP) (Muhleman et al, 120).
Oracle is the Enterprise Resource Management system used by Amazon. The system has a vast database that holds data related to all customers. It also joins in all the data related to customer orders which include product shipment, invoices, and purchase history. The system benefits the organization by assisting them to streamline the order fulfillment process. The ordering process is therefore automated and order is placed with just a click on the order and then the system matches the order automatically to the nearest distribution channel for delivery so that the client gets the order as soon as possible. The system speeds up the order fulfillment process and improves order distribution and tracking mistakes (Muhleman et al, 130). The system is effective since it reduced 50 percent of the organization service contacts because few mistakes are involved.
Supply Chain Management (SCM) is another system used by Amazon and helps then in supply chain activities. SCM was installed in 2000 and before the organization had an inefficient process of picking and packing different products. The SCM system provides efficient distribution of products entered and leaving for delivery the stores so that there is proper data on the number of products delivered to the customers in each delivery center. The SCM system has increased sales because its analyses products highly demanded and bought by the customers so that they are always available in stores. It also improves efficiency by placing products ordered regularly at the front supply lines so that customers do not spend most of their time locating them. SCM system speeds up the process of ordering an item by providing information on the by examining customer demand (Jones, 16). Moreover, the system provides optimized pick lists for multi-orders giving the customers the shortest route to pick all the products they want. This also speeds up time used to shop on this online platform.
Customer Relation Management (CRM) is a software used by Amazon to gain customer loyalty and satisfaction. It uses advertising, service and selling to get customers to make repeat purchases. The system keeps records of customer's personal information such as transaction record, card record, order record of the past history (Jones, 13).
The transaction records are secured and the system scheme takes care of the transaction record and delivers it to the delivery system for shipment. The system also allows for the collection of customer information system such as wish list, feedback, products reviews and customers interests through the web page system.
