The place of APRNs in the healthcare sector cannot lower at any cost. The emergence of interest in patient safety has been buoyed by the increased integrative aspect of performance that has since seen a rise in the level of patient care and safety in nursing practices. The integrative review of the performance outcomes of APNs brings to light several factors surrounding nursing practices. The chapter addresses such factors as the conceptual models of care delivery impact that measure full aspects of APN practices. The achievement of the models is through evaluating the outcomes achieved by APNs (Hamric, Hanson, Tracy & O'Grady, 2013). This chapter also shows some of the critical components of the quality health outcomes model (QHOM) that seeks to address most of the APN work environments. The Nurse Practitioner Role Effectiveness Model (NPEM) also addresses some of the prominent aspects of patient safety and the role of the clinical environment in the nursing field (Hamric et al., 2013). The place of improvement activities in the improvement of nursing activities in the healthcare facilities.

Strengths and Weaknesses of the Study

The study offers well-developed models of achieving proper APNs in the healthcare setting. Proposed models incorporate structural variables that include interactional and engaging frameworks. The model does not explore the role that society can play in developing the model in the healthcare setting. The role of patients in the model is not well defined.

Well-planned outcome evaluation model that includes evaluation models such as the Donabedian-guided model. The evaluation process does not mention sufficient criteria that are the best fitting for the entire model evaluation. No empirical figures to support the evaluation model that is best for the healthcare development platform

Well conceptualized health outcome model with defined outcomes concerning the intervention components and nurses' role in the entire model through the Nursing role effectiveness model (NREM) (Hamric et al., 2013) The conceptualization framework fails to mention the controls and the reliabilities tests that are needed in the enhancement of the NREM model and healthcare outcomes.

The chapter discusses the study of the care delivery process with a combined role study including process-focused studies. Inadequate empirical studies that are backed with evidence are still needed to enhance some of the advanced frameworks in the model.

The disease management activities are detailed and well explained to proper understanding. Disease management activities are largely medical and with little proposition for the physical activities approach.

The chapter addresses some of the comparison studies addressing APRN activities and functionality in the healthcare sector. The place of regulatory offices in the healthcare setting and the expansive pace of APNs need to clarify for better understanding.

Next Steps

This study provides adequate room for discussion on the probable steps that will assure and ensure a better future. With the proposed models that accommodate the evaluation of the entire system, it is sufficient to acknowledge that the institute of Medicine (IOM) in conjunction with relevant healthcare departments must create a strong ground upon which the APNs can be trained to improve their skills and healthcare provision.

Also, there is a need to ensure that the patients whose interests are covered by the proposed models of healthcare service through evaluation models must have their opinions included in the establishment of a proper healthcare framework (Hamric et al., 2013). In this case, therefore, it remains clear that future studies must be commissioned to incorporate all these other aspects of studies in the healthcare sector.
