Influence of social media in modern world
Social media has influenced the youth both positively and negatively. The positive impacts are the access to information and communication. Most of the social media platforms such as the internet have proved to be helpful in terms of research, where the youth use these platforms for educational purposes. on the other hand, social media is a tool of communication, where it has influenced the youth positively in terms of making social contacts.
Social media is also influencing the youth negatively. The access to the websites has become a priority for the youth, while it has the negative impact of addiction. In this case, most of the youth are spending most of their time on the social media platforms to the level that they cannot have the time required for study. The platforms have also changed the way in which the youth portray themselves. most of these social platforms are made in such a way that they can conceal the anonymity of the user. in this case, the youth have presented themselves as someone they are not.
Social media has also changed the social way of life of the youth, where they have developed acts of cyber bullying, which has eroded the moral principles of its use. most of the youths have become targets of cyber bullying, while the victims resort to the act as a counteraction to the effects it causes. The media has also impacted on the trends that the youths adopt. Most of the youths are taking over the trends they see in the social media platforms with a view of living like the people they see on social media platforms. Since the social media platforms are addictive, they have eventually side-tracked the youth, where they have become inured to the activities that happen in the platforms.
Most of the behavior of the youth is influenced by social media platforms. for instance, bad habits are slowly cropping up among the youth depending on the sites they watch. the moral habits have been changed by the access to bad activities such as pornography. The youth have also been targeted on social media with the increasing rates of abduction as they continue interacting with strangers. Most of the youths have also changed their lifestyles to feature what they get in the social media platforms.
The social media platforms are also influencing the youth in terms of changes to their physical appearance. the youth are continually adopting the physical appearances of the people they consider as their inspirations. for instance, female youths would want to take over the hairstyles and dressing codes of celebrities without caring about the consequences of these looks. moreover, the youth have been turned into puppets, where their consumption behavior is determined by what they see on the social media platforms. for instance, the youths will purchase items basing on the number of followers and gigs that have been given to that item. It is thus imperative to note that the access to social media is proving to be the factor that is shaping the lives and behavior of the youths. the youths have adopted different lifestyles ranging from the dressing code to the physical outlook that features what they see on the social media platforms.
Nurturing like an impaction on human behavior
The impact of nurture and nature debate is an essential topic in today’s world. Nature includes the features we are likely to inherit via our genes hence the emergence of phrases like “you resemble your mother or father” from different individuals surrounding us. On the other hand, nurture describes the influence of an environment or a surrounding when a child is growing and affects our behaviors and personalities later. Various individuals say that how a child is brought up is likely to affect the adults they are going to become arguing that nurture and nature are great influencers in determining a person’s personality. This paper highlights points that nature and nurture are great influencers to human behaviors.
Nature has a large influence cause of the amount inherited from our caregivers. These are the genes providing susceptibility for particular traits or features that are evident in our parents. Biological evidence supports this, for instance, a child acquires looks and body shape from the parents. Studies also show that an individual can inherit a genetic predisposition to some characteristics or some traits. For instance, it is difficult to gain research on this particular topic, but adoption and twins studies showing that twins raised together and those raised apart have some distinct characteristics.
Nurture includes acquiring knowledge from an environment or surrounding where individuals are adapting. Some studies highlight that when born we are born in a blank state known as Tabula Rasa which means that we acquire our languages from the environment surrounding us when being brought up. A researcher claimed in his studies that all our knowledge is acquired through experiences but our childhood characteristics nurture is highly dependent on the people we spend our time with. These people can be friends, neighbors or close relatives. One of the main character trait that nurturing involves is the accent an individual communicates with. During an individual’s growth in learning how to speak, the surrounding accents are what are likely achieved.
A good example of nurture and nature involvement is the perfect pitch which refers to the ability to detect a pitch of a musical tone with no references. Studies show that the ability has a tendency of running in families hence believed that it has to have a connection to the genes. Additionally, a discovery shows that possession of the gene alone cannot be enough in developing this ability and training is therefore essential during the growth of a child to allow the manifestation of the ability.
In conclusion, both nature and nurture are great contributors on the people we learn to become in later lives and they could be put on a balance despite me believing that it depends between individuals as every circumstance is distinct from another. We all have the ability in arguing that either nurture or nature has a great impact. Lastly, sorting out is the leading cause and its effects are the mere academic matters. If we are indeed trying out to aid in people’s lives, it is very critical to always get it right.
Nature or nurture: what is more important in human behavior?
Introduction
Nature can be defined as what we think as pre-wiring which is known to be genetically inherited whereas nurture can be described as influence of other factors (external). As to which has impact on human behavior, is only a question to be answered in fullness of time. It has been an issue of debate over a long period of time in psychology.
Nature versus Nurture
Various philosophers like Plata have argued that human beings are born with certain behaviors regardless of the environmental influences. Views of Nativists show that nearly all of behaviors are inherited. Its advocates hold the believe that human beings are nothing but the result of fruition. Hereditary characteristics handed down from parents influence the individual differences that make each person different.
On the other hand, environmentalists assume that that at birth the mind of a human is a tabula rasa (a blank slate) and that this is gradually “filled” as a result of experience and learning
For example, when an infant forms an attachment it is responding to the love and attention it has received, language comes from imitating the speech of others, and cognitive development depends on the degree of stimulation in the environment and, more broadly, on the civilization within which the child is reared.
There are extreme nature positions in psychology include Bowlby's (1969) theory of attachment, which views the bond between the mother and her child as being an innate process that ensures survival. Likewise, Chomsky (1965) proposed language is gained through the use of an innate language acquisition device. Another example of the nature is Freud's theory of aggression as being an innate drive (called thanatos) . In contrast Bandura's (1977) social learning theory states that aggression is learnt from the environment through observation and imitation. This is seen in his famous Bobo doll experiment (Bandura, 1961). Also, Skinner (1957) believed that language is learnt from other people via behavior shaping techniques.
It is widely accepted now that heredity and the environment do not act independently. Instead of defending extreme nativist or environmentalist views, most psychological researchers are now interested in investigating the ways in which nature and nurture interact. In psychopathology, this means that both a genetic predisposition and appropriate environmental triggers are required for a mental disorder to develop. This realization is especially important given the recent advances in genetics. The Human Genome Project, for example, has stimulated enormous interest in tracing types of behavior to particular strands of DNA located on specific chromosomes. If these advances are not to be abused then there will be a need of more general understanding of the fact that biology interacts with both the cultural context and the personal choices that people make about how they want to live their lives. There is no neat and or a simple way of unraveling these different and reciprocal influences on human behavior.
Generally, humans are behaving in a particular manner because of mixture of some characteristics which are both inherited and found in environment.
