Introduction
Nursing is a special profession in which I developed an interest at a very young age. As young as eleven years old, I had the passion of becoming a nurse. Although I did not fully understand the complexities and the challenges that come with it, I felt that I needed to become a nurse one day. I had an aunt who was a nurse, and every time she narrated to me about patient care, I felt how good it was to watch others heal under your care. Nursing calls for a very high level of technical skills and knowledge which the nurse has to portray every second of their practice. Besides, the nursing profession calls for certain personal characteristics that are not possessed by many people. Empathy, kindness, and humility are some of them. I possess these characteristics, and I believe they will help me to become an admirable Family Nurse Practitioner who is concerned about the well-being of the patients.
Personal and Professional Goals
My ultimate professional goal is to attain a post-doctoral degree in nursing, specializing in family nursing. I also aspire to be a nursing educator so that I can impart knowledge, skills, and confidence to other nurses about the need to play their role as nurses seriously. My personal goals include offering comprehensive care to patients and being mindful of their cultural and emotional needs. As a family nurse, I wish to help families and communities attain an optimum state of well-being by promoting their health.
My major reason for seeking an advanced nursing degree is to gain more knowledge to help me serve my clients better and improve health outcomes. The basic healing facility is the family unit, and I am confident that if the health of the people was improved at the family level, then it would be easier to manage many of the illnesses that affect people.
Given this opportunity at UCSF, I am confident of getting the required knowledge and skills that I will use to impart the society positively. I would like to pursue advanced studies, especially as a Family Nurse Practitioner since a Family Nurse Practitioner is mostly concerned about the health of their patients as well as the community. Besides, a Family Nurse Practitioner is mandated to educate patients about making proper healthcare choices. As a nursing educator, I will be privileged to educate and guide nursing students to choose such a noble career opportunity, and this will be my way of giving back to the nursing profession.
Academic and Life Experiences
My educational background in nursing gives me the proper opportunity to enroll for an advanced degree in nursing. This would give me a proper opportunity to enrich myself with nursing knowledge and skills to help me have a positive impact on the patients and the nursing profession as a whole. In my life, I have interacted with families and individuals that require care, and I have always been moved to help them. At the age of seventeen, I helped one of my neighbors who had fainted and helped them get back to consciousness. Besides, I have spent a better part of my younger life with nurses who admired for their role in society. Particularly, my aunt, who was a nurse encouraged me to become a nurse also and shared positive stories about nursing. My upbringing shaped my life and desire to be a nurse in life. Given this chance, I would be at the forefront of changing the nursing profession for the better.
