College is the obvious first choice of many people who wants a successful career and is the pinnacle of hard work. Sadly, this is not the outcome everyone receives. There are plenty of causes for this result, for example, attendance, motivation, and poor study habits. One of the most important things for a college student to understand is time management. Some prioritize time management, which leads to success in the future, while others procrastinate, leading to stress that affects your emotion and grades, which will destroy your future.
Time management is essential in ensuring that students utilize the limited time (Häfner et al., 2015). For a student to accomplish all the required tasks in a day, one must maximize the available time. Therefore, a student must plan how to spend time to ensure that one completes the requisite activities. How one manages time is the difference why other students complete their assignments while others do not. It will, in turn, reflect on the grades that one score because when a student performs all the necessary tasks daily, he or she will have covered the objectives of the unit by the end of the semester, thus, giving more time for revision.
Managing time enables learners to accomplish more work with less effort (Häfner et al., 2015). Students who schedule time improve their ability to focus (Häfner et al., 2015). This move helps in developing momentum, which will increase their efficiency to perform tasks. Once students are used to controlling their time, it reaches a point that one can quickly go through all the required functions of the day, enabling them to achieve their targets with minimal effort. It will increase their ability to perform tasks and ensure that one does not strain during the day.
Time management improves a student’s ability to make decisions (Häfner et al., 2015). Planning time ensues that college students make sound decisions by eliminating the pressure that makes them feel they have less time available. It will help a student consider the available options instead of jumping into conclusions. Proper planning makes one calm and in control of the activities, enabling the learner to contemplate the choices available, thus determining a verdict based on what to complete first. This move will allow the student to choose the amount of time to allocate to specific duties, which will ensure that they produce the best results.
Managing time helps to prepare learners for success in life (Razali et al., 2018). Students who plan their time take control of their lives and are less influenced by others. This move helps increase exposure, which makes the learners better equipped to handle the challenges in life. The progress of accomplishing more and making sound decisions accumulates over time, placing the student in a better position to advance their abilities. Over time, the difference between a student who manages time and the one who does not will be evident and lead to a bright future.
Time management help students to reduce the stress of feeling rushed (Razali et al., 2018). Students will finish all the assignments before the deadline when they plan their time effectively. When they normalize time management, they can estimate the time needed to complete specific tasks. When learners know the time to dedicate to a particular activity, they will start the assignment when there is enough time to complete the work and avoid the last-minute rush associated with procrastination. This approach enables the student to have adequate time to complete the task with the attention it requires, thus, enhancing their chances of attaining a higher score.
Time management instills self-discipline among students (Razali et al., 2018). Self-discipline is a valuable skill that students develop when they manage their time. It is because time planning ensures that one adheres to the activities planned for the day. This useful skill will ensure that learners commit their day to the duties they intend to perform, leaving little or no time for other events that are detrimental to their behavior. Therefore, time management reduces the chances of indiscipline in students and ensures that their stay in college is smooth without interruption due to suspension.
Effective time management increases a student’s learning opportunities (Razali et al., 2018). One gains experiences and more knowledge in life from studying in class and other activities such as interacting with fellow learners. A student will develop his or her abilities by having time to interact with fellow students. It is critical as it helps one to network and increases their opportunities for success. Students who manage time will have occasions where they are socializing. It is through such circumstances that they develop ideas and materialize them to become life-changing opportunities. Students should plan their time correctly to give room for such events.
Managing time ensures that students have free time. Students need time to relax their mind from the activities of the college (Razali et al., 2018). This time is essential in providing that one has enough rest. Managing time will ensure that students have adequate sleep, which is vital as it certifies that they can prepare for the following day. Having enough rest will guarantee that one can accomplish the tasks required without straining. Therefore, students must plan their time well to accumulate enough time to rest and perform more tasks.
