Kristyn W. Post
Kristyn offers an interesting definition of self-disclosure, terming it as when the recipient roles are reversed, despite the topic's relativity. Kristyn further details it as the point where the therapist or a mentor, provides details to point where the client feels obligated to assist the therapist, which aligns with the accepted definition of self-disclosure. However, Kristyn’s explanation of the reciprocal characteristics is incorrect, as it is termed as "when someone gives you some type of gift or resource, you aren’t expected to return the favor.” The reciprocal aspect of self-disclosure means that when an individual receives favor from someone, they should offer a similar of a better favor in return (Floyd 2021, p. 100 – 101). Kristyn also offers the varying degree or depth of self-disclosure described by Floyd (2021, p. 98), which contextualizes their inappropriate self-disclosure. The two aspects of self-disclosure; reciprocal and varied breadth, and depth describe Kristyn's situation. In several instances, the mentor has proceeded to offer so many details about themselves to a point where Kristyn feels uncomfortable at the same time feeling that they should reciprocate the role of being the mentor.
Kristyn describes perception as the process of creating an impression about something which is correct. Kristyn view is affirmed by CBC News (2018) YouTube video and the method described by Floyd (2021, p. 111 – 113). According to the article, perception is a process that involves selection, organization, and interpretation, steps which are followed in classifying the subject in the video; Luis Bracamontes. However, Krystin distances herself from creating perception based on the politics of the matter, but rather using the more logical approach.
Sherry P. Post
Sherry terms self-disclosure as the process of providing information about self with other individuals, with the hope that they do not already have, which is correct according to the (Floyd 2021, P. 97). Sherry further describes the choice of disclosing information as courageous. This is true since some of the details are so intricate and secretive, that an individual would wish to die with such. Sherry's memorable instance of inappropriate self-disclosure surrounds a co-worker who continually brags about drug use, even when Sherry has showed little to no interest. The situation is inappropriate since Sherry is a recipient of information out of context, and makes her uncomfortable. The co-worker instance of openly discussing drug use is inappropriate since, at the workplace, they have scheduled drug tests, meaning when caught, she might make Sherry branded a drug user.
Sherry delves directly into the misconceptions around the settlement of African Americans in the US. Like any rational human being in the modern world, Sherry strongly disagrees with the stereotypes surrounding any group beyond, African Americans. Sherry terms stereotyping as unfair, as it is primarily based on false claims, which is true as most of the stereotypes are either illogical, illiterate, racists, or all.
