This journal is based on a research of the working adult students in the current accelerated program. This research journal investigates the applicability of Tintos Institutional Action Model to AL students who are both full-time workers and also are parents at the same time. Student retention is a serious issue in the higher education sector. Retention is the process in which the higher education schools keep the students who are admitted into the institutions to work towards a certain credential. The journal is also based on accelerated learning (AL) programs which are a type of education that helps the scholars to attain a certain set of learning in a shorter period in contrast to the normal conventional learning pattern. This research has gathered enough empirical data from different surveys and also analyzed the collected data on how the institution action models (IAM) to AL students who work full time and also have dependents. The main objective of this research was to determine the best retention initiatives suitable for them.
This research has used the question and hypotheses research methodologies. One of the research questions to be answered in this research is which one of the institutional initiatives approves in Tintos IAM do the AL students working full time and assuming a 50 percentage of the dependent care responsibility perceive to be useful. The hypothesis conducted also analyzed this research question. On the hypothesis conducted, then null version proposes neutrality on this research question was making a score of 3 out five on a five-point like type scale. The opposite of each null hypothesis indicated that students are not neutral to a particular initiative based on the question clearly stated concerning the students achieving their goals. The two versions of the questionnaires used were derived from Tinto (National University, 2008). One of the questionnaires versions was given to the students taking onsite classes while the other version was given to the online students. All the questions given to the students were the same except that they varied in words.
The objective questions were also based in 5 as the type they were also open-ended to provide more in-depth answers. The research steps were based on the following; defining the research hypothesis based on the relevant theoretical model, developing two versions of a questionnaire for both the onsite and online students, obtaining institute review board approval, performing a pretest on each version of the questionnaires, engaging the students in voluntary work, data cleaning and coding based on the subject answers, two-tailed statistical test for every hypothesis to know if the null version of each subject should be rejected or not. Based on the demographic research results, among the complete questionnaires collected a total of 69 results came from the students were not only working for 40 hours weekly but also had at least 50 percent of the responsibility of taking care of their dependents who were their children and old parents.
The students who participated in this research were both undergraduates and graduates. Also, none of the 69 subjects were all above 23 years where 19 were based between 24 and 33 years, 37 were between 34 and 43 years, and 13 were 44 years old. Among the 69 students, 68 were domestic students, and one did not answer the question while. From the 69 students, 31 of them were military veterans, seven of them were on active military, and twenty four were civilians with no military experience, six of them did not make a choice of any of the above while finally one of the sixty nine declined to give an answer in regard to this question.
From the sixty nine subjects, two were perusing the first course of study, twenty two had taken one to four courses within their programs while fifty had taken 5 to 10 and thirty had pursued more than ten institution programs.
The whole research indicated that many of the initiatives approved from the IAM could be integrated to AL students working on a full-time basis and also taking care of their dependents (National University, 2008). They confirmed a great positive helpfulness of the initiative. About this, their view was neutral based on the usefulness of the program inspection. The subjects were also negative about the usefulness of getting the chance to know the faculty and students from their own social and ethnic backgrounds.
The conclusion, this research has portrayed an empirical study to verify the IAM (National University, 2008). The highest number of the initiative extracted from this model were mainly deemed to be useful by AL students subjects who mainly worked full time and also had people depending on them as their children and elder parents. However based on my opinion to this research is that most of the student subjects were neutral about the importance of having to go through a pre-program assessment, getting more from students loan, getting involved with student level contests and attendance of often social get together with faculty, alumni and students in the institution such like quarterly online lecture series . The students are also not positive on the importance of knowing the faculty and as well as other students who are from the same ethnic and social background environments.
