Organizational change in the workplace is essential to ensure that organizations stay relevant in the market and the industry. Therefore, organizations need to understand all the necessary skills needed to implement the essential changes in the workplace. For instance, communication is key, as well as transparency in the company's objectives and expected results. More importantly, leaders are supposed to be positive and motivate all the workers to avoid any uncertainties that may exist and hinder effective change. As such, it is apparent that change is the critical aspect for organizations to thrive, while the most crucial position for a successful change in the workplace is a change-oriented leader. As identified in this paper, leaders should emulate effective leadership strategies to lead and implement change in the workplace.
Among the essential aspects that leaders should emulate for effective workplace change is the inspiration for others to attain the vision of change. They can do this by providing examples of opportunities that will arise as a result and, more importantly, the reward that changes in the workplace will bring. A leader should explain and show that change allows new platforms for workers to shine. Furthermore, leaders should understand that change combines different ideas from all employees, inspiring them to be creative in establishing solutions to reach the organization's desired visions. With this aspect, leaders should encourage workers to promote change by assuring them that effective changes create processes that can be used in practical ways to benefit employees the company in general.
Leaders should be competent in ensuring awareness and practice in the workplace to promote effective organizational change. More importantly, they should understand that organizational culture is a blend of different lifestyles, abilities, cultures, and ages. As such, they should use this understanding to introduce a different set of ideas and style to the workplace. However, even though this can be essential in creating innovations, there can be the possibility of violations of such groups based on race, sex, age, and culture. Any organization would easily fall in case these issues arise. There is, therefore, the need for leaders to be trained to respect these differences and, at the same time, prevent these violations. Furthermore, leaders should also seek the trust of other employees in the workplace to motivate and attain their respect towards attaining the vision.
For a leader in implementing effective change in the workplace, they should know their strengths and weaknesses. Ideally, knowing their strengths and limitations will play a massive role in putting the rest of the employees to the respective right positions, creating better platforms for successful changes in the workplace. Besides, it would also show that the leader appreciates the differences among the workers and therefore enable the closing of any existing cultural gaps and, as such, enhance the communication. Moreover, enabling an effective change in the workplace also requires a leader to have skills in understanding cultural stereotypes to enable avoidance of stereotypes as well as personal biases, such as the ones that arise as a result of being unaware.
Moreover, successful implementation of change in the workplace also requires a leader to develop the ability to be self-assuring to the rest of the workers without being arrogant. With this aspect, the leader will be able to build confidence and enthusiasm with the employees. With a focused vision to enable successful changes in the workplace, leaders must be in the position to sell the vision while developing a diverse mindset, while keeping all the employees on board. Transparency is of great importance in this aspect because employees deserve to understand where they are headed and an essential skill to enable this through effective communication. Communication can be of any form, either verbally or nonverbally, depending on different requirements. Additionally, in connection with this aspect, such leaders should also have motivational techniques. At the same time, accept social responsibility with the customers as well as stakeholders of the company.
Additionally, for effective leadership in implementing change in the workplace, leaders should employ various skills that will uphold respect for the diversity aspect in a workplace with different attributes. Importantly, leaders should also develop competencies within these skills for the success of the organizational change. This includes understanding the different types of leadership structures as well as processes in the workplace. Besides, leaders must understand that what they provide to the workers, determines their satisfaction towards change. Failure to achieve the employees’ satisfaction will lack the proper motivation to effect the needed change in the workplace, leading to failure to achieve success in the organization.
Successful change in the workplace can also be implemented if the leader communicates the initial purpose to the rest. A clear understanding of the purpose among the workers creates team motivation necessary for initiating change in the workplace. Additionally, leaders should further establish specific goals and expectations, followed by a delegation of various duties that will affect the necessary change in the workplace. Ideally, this will allow workers to fall into roles where they may find comfort and, as such, establish a timeline for the development of changes in the organization. Having established and communicated the desired goals, the next step should involve training and developing the workers in sectors that the change is needed to attain the specific goals set and fulfill what is expected.
Sensemaking must be the subsequent process of ensuring that the leader implements successful change in the workplace. Here, the leader must identify all the factors and aspects that might destruct the workplace and the entire team from attaining the necessary change. It would be essential for this information to be communicated to the workers to lessen the impact of what the destruction may achieve in the workplace and ensure a smooth change. After that, the leader should provide feedback to the workers concerning the specific changes being made in the workplace. Ideally, doing this is essential to maintain the workplace on track and, more importantly, provide motivation to the members based on the milestones and expectations of a project or the entire company.
Change is essential in any workplace and organization in general towards sustaining its relevance in the dynamic market. Leaders should, therefore, understand all the necessary skills and attributes to implement effective change in the workplace successfully. As presented in this essay, among the most crucial change factors that leaders can emulate is the workers' inspiration towards the desired workplace’s change. They should also be competent in enabling awareness and practice by understanding the blend of different cultures, abilities, and lifestyles. Leaders are also supposed to know their strengths and weaknesses to create a better platform for implementing change. Furthermore, as identified in the paper, leaders should also communicate the initial purpose of the desired changes to the workers, therefore motivating them towards attaining the set goals and objectives. By combining these aspects, leaders can successfully implement change in the workplace and enhance the company's operations and services in general.
