Mentoring is the expert guidance given to an individual by his or her senior in an organization, learning institution, or general life situation. Team leadership, therefore, is group guidance provided to a team of people solely to achieve qualitative or quantitative goals aligned with the direction being delivered by the team leader who reports to the organizational manager, at the end of it. This paper presents the discussion of how a team leader can implement mentoring and team leadership in delegating tasks to team members such as marketing managers, human resource managers, and the representative of the software company that created the payroll system that the employees are to be trained on.
Tasks Assigned to the Marketing Manager
Marketing is an essential component of business management. It entails the identification, anticipation, and satisfaction of consumer desired needs by attracting them by expressing what best the organization can deliver in terms of service and products (Fowler, 2016). As a team leader, I would assign the marketing manager in my team the responsibilities of creating posters to advertise for the training class, and selecting a method for recording and notifying managers of employees’ attendance. Among the team members, the marketing manager suits these tasks because the manager is experienced in creating awareness and is equipped with skills and competencies to convince and elaborate the all-around required information that anyone interested in the training may need to know. As a team leader, my responsibility, in this case, will be to oversee the operation and report to the organizational manager in cases of qualitative and quantitative achievements and give guidance or lead where needed.
Tasks Assigned to the Human resource manager
The human resource manager is that individual in the organization responsible for carrying out the organization's strategic management activities, which include management of human resources, employee performance appraisal, and job analysis, among other tasks delegated (Fowler, 2016). According to the team obligation to meet the training needs on the new payroll system to the organization, I would entrust the human resource with the responsibilities of determining the list of participants for the training, creating a schedule for the course with four different times offered for two weeks, selecting the location for the training class that meets the average and space requirements of the class, and writing a memo to be sent to all managers announcing the training dates and times and process for recording the attendance. These tasks suit the HR manager since the manager is aware of the employees' training needs in that organization; hence must have a say on the location, time, and method.
Tasks Assigned to the Software Company Representative
According to Van Vianen et al. (2018), software companies are known for the development and operation of technology-based systems. According to the provided list of tasks, the software representative will create a PowerPoint presentation to be used during the training. According to Fowler (2016), software personnel suits this task since software specialists have the skills to carry out technological operations.
How Task Delegation Improves Team Leader Effectiveness
A team leader should be knowledgeable of their responsibilities, such as task delegation and overseeing all operations and reporting to the organization (Fowler, 2016). Van Vianen et al. (2018) argue that delegating tasks improves a sense of accountability and is answerable to the senior departments of any steps made in the organization hence improving the organization's productivity.
Conclusion
Mentoring is the expert guidance given to an individual by his or her senior in an organization, learning institution, or general life situation. Team leadership, therefore, is group guidance provided to a team of people solely to achieve qualitative or quantitative goals aligned with the administration being delivered by the team leader who reports to the organizational manager, at the end of it. All corporate departments and individuals have vital roles to play to meet the success of that particular organization.
