Identification and Description of preferred area of practice
The world is laden with many types of suffering, many of which we know not much. Such suffering lies in the medical field of Cardiology. It is my passion to work in the cardiovascular field of nursing to carry out cardiovascular assessments at an in-depth level. I would like to work with the patients of cardiovascular diseases to assist them with all the care and the information that they may need in the course of their cure and assess the patients for chronic and acute illnesses. Working with the County Hospital of Minnesota or the local VA has been my dream, which could enable me to work closely with the medical physicians and provide health education to patients together with their families. By bringing improvements to the cardiovascular care and assisting families to be better aware of their patients conditions, patients will be able to recover and get quick recovery. As a nurse, I believe that it is the right of the patient to understand all that is going on both with regards to treatment and the bodys reaction to the treatment administered. I, therefore, would like to be helpful to assist the patients to understand the cardiac processes by interpreting the laboratory work data, radiology data and all other data that is concerned with the clinical field to assist patients to manage their illnesses and diseases better and avert the complications whenever they accrue.
What it takes to practice as a Nursing Practitioner
To practice as a Certified Nursing, Practitioner takes more than the nursing practice in a medical institution that is recognized by the United States Department of Health. One needs to have a degree in registered nursing (Minnesota Board of Nursing , 2016). One also needs to receive certification as a registered to practice in the United States. One ought to pass the NCLEX-RN examination as a standard procedure for acquiring certification (National Plan and Provider Enumeration System , 2016). There is need to practice as a registered nurse for two years and work 2.000 hours in the cardiovascular department within a period of three years. There is also the requirement of completing 30 completing hours of education in the field of Cardiovascular Nursing within a period of three years ( Revisor of Statutes Minnesota State , 2016). To get Cardiovascular Nursing Certification, the candidate ought to apply to sit the Cardiovascular Nursing examination. The Candidate then ought to get certification as a cardiovascular practitioner in the state they wish to practice their trade (Minnesota Board of Nursing , 2016). The certification is renewed every five years both via the board and the state. According to the Minnesota board of nursing where I intend to carry out my profession, one is allowed to practice when they are licensed as an APRN by the board of nursing (Nurses Service Organization , 2016). One is also expected to be certified by a national nurse certification organization. The organization ought to be acceptable to the Minnesota Nursing Board to carry out their practice as a Clinical Nurse Specialist ( Revisor of Statutes Minnesota State , 2016).
There are several steps that I have personally taken qualify to practice as a nurse in the cardiac field for adults. I am currently equipped with five years of training at the Intensive Care Unit ( Revisor of Statutes Minnesota State , 2016). I care for cardiac patients that include patients that undergo open heart surgeries. The main work that I am concerned with is working at the Intensive Care Unit at the VA. I love my job; the attention that it requires is one that cannot be underestimated (Nurses Service Organization , 2016). The adrenalin at the ICU is one that keeps one on their toes and allows nurses the chance to think rationally and in an efficient manner.
Besides working in the ICU, I work part time at the County hospital in the emergency unit. My work at the Intensive Care Unit affords me the opportunity to see firsthand the suffering of the patients with the Cardiac conditions, and this gives me the heart to carry out my duties with even more dedication (Nurses Service Organization , 2016). The way that patients with cardiac conditions suffer draws me into the profession and ignites my passion for the profession a new. All the time I have worked at the Intensive Care Unite I have come to know that there is nothing that is more fulfilling than helping patients during their hardest times of need (Minnesota Board of Nursing , 2016). I always come into contact with patients that have acute cases of Cardiac issues in the emergency department, and it moves me with renewed passion for wanting to be of help to them in their time of need (Minnesota Board of Nursing , 2016). The experience is life changing, and it makes one appreciate the little gift of life. I am currently working towards the goal of attaining subspecialty in the field of Cardiac Surgery (CSC). I am working to attain this goal via the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). The experience is amazing given the fact that it is something that I love to do.
Source of Professional Support
I draw my support from the thoracic cardiac team with whom I work closely. In the team, I work as the post-op nurse for the Intensive Care Unit. The Intensive Care Unit recovers many open heart and surgical patients. I love the Intensive Care Unit for the way that it is intense and highly involving, the fact that we are directly responsible for the lives of the many patients that go through the unit makes the duty all the more fulfilling and satisfactory. The team is made up of three Nursing Practitioners and three surgeons.
Working with the surgeons is also fulfilling for the way that we get the chance to share our experiences and learn from one another more about the cardiac health. This team has a great approach to teamwork and cooperation. The team relies on me to recover their patients after the surgeries have been carried out. I highly rely on them for their knowledge, professionalism, and expertise. The surgeons have a great wealth of experience that gives us the nurses the chance to share (Nurses Service Organization , 2016). The team of Nursing Practitioners is always there to answer to many of my questions.
The team also assists to guide me in the right direction. I have been offered the opportunity to shadow them in the OR. I havent however had the chance. I believe that the team of surgeons and Nursing Practitioners is the right team for me to get the amount of inspiration that I need as well as grow regarding my professionalism and industry. I ultimately would like to reach the peak of my potentials, and it is important that I engage with the right people all through, including people that will challenge me to greatness (Nurses Service Organization , 2016).
Areas of involvement
The places that I work are both teaching facilities in nature. In the long run, I would like to move from nursing practice and venture into teaching. I would like to pursue the same course and area of study of the medical field (National Plan and Provider Enumeration System , 2016). Besides teaching, I would also like to move into coaching and carry them out side by side. I believe that it is the duty of every generation to pass their knowledge and experiences to the next generation and in this way, the practice of Nursing is preserved into generations for future prosperity (Minnesota Board of Nursing , 2016). Nursing Practitioners can provide coaching and teaching with the option of care plans for patients, team members and families to the patients. I also believe that the nursing practitioners are at a better place to impart practical skills and knowledge to the students that are training to be nurses. Since nursing is a highly practical subject and area of study, it is imperative that the people training the nurses take as practical an approach as possible (National Plan and Provider Enumeration System , 2016). Working as a private consultant in the field for cardiology companies like Medtronics is also one other viable option.
Plan for lifelong learning and professional development
I plan to improve my career as well as my academic credentials and to better my trade as Nursing Practitioner. I intend to take a masters Degree and possibly a Ph.D. in the future in the same field of cardiovascular health (Minnesota Board of Nursing , 2016). To become proficient one needs to receive certification as a registered to practice in the United States. I intend to go further into the field and study more aspects that might be beneficial to the field.
One ought to pass the NCLEX-RN examination as a standard procedure for acquiring certification. It is my intention to keep on updating my education certification and certification and to keep refreshing them from time to time (National Plan and Provider Enumeration System , 2016). There is need to practice as a registered nurse for two years and work 2.000 hours in the cardiovascular department within a period of three years. I intend to carry out the 2,000 hours and more to attain this goal (National Plan and Provider Enumeration System , 2016). There is also the requirement of completing 30 completing hours of education in the field of Cardiovascular Nursing within a period of three years. This is a requirement that I would like to fulfill in the future. To get Cardiovascular Nursing Certification, the candidate ought to apply to sit the Cardiovascular Nursing examination.
Finally, I hope to be able to get the Cardiovascular Nursing Certification. Since a candidate ought to get certification as a cardiovascular practitioner in the state then they wish to practice their trade, I intend to work in the state of Minnesota, and this is one of the credentials I hope to have. The certification is renewed every five years both via the board and the state. I intend to renew my certification as is legally required. According to the Minnesota board of nursing where I intend to carry out my profession, one is allowed to practice when they are licensed as an APRN by the board of nursing.
