xCaddie creates value by reducing the time that would have otherwise been spent in an approximation of the distance to the green that the golfer was hitting. Initially, the golfers would guess these greens, but the xCaddie helped in estimating the distance.

Additionally, it also creates value by recording the progress of the golfers around the course, which would not have been tracked or kept without the system.

Besides, the system has also created value by enabling the players to record the exact position of each ball at the beginning and the end of the game. xCaddie also allows the golfers to get a record of the clubs used in every shot.

At the end of the game, the xCaddie allowed the golfer to download the data to a kiosk print it, and get to know the details of the progress made in the field and every time the players have a game. As a result, they can have a track record over time which enables them to make improvements where necessary.

The value created is compelling because it makes the product more marketable and more beneficial to both the company and the consumers. It is an all-in-one packaged product because it gives the consumer several benefits that would not be achieved otherwise when the device is not utilized. Additionally, it is compelling to the company because it has several functions that become the selling points and therefore, easy to convince the customers.

2. What is the market potential for the GolfLogix devices?

The market potential of a product can be obtained by getting the total estimated sales revenue of a product over a given period. In this case, the estimated sales revenue for GolfLogix can be obtained by multiplying the retail price of the devices by the number of Golf courses that lease the product.

The approximate number of golf courses in the US is said to be 17000 golf courses*2000 $*36 months 1,224,000,000 dollars.

3. What are the advantages of going through golf courses? Through retail channels?

The advantage of going through the golf course is that the company will be able to reduce the cost of distribution which in this case is shifted to the golf courses. Another advantage is that the golf courses will market the product on behalf of GolfLogix. Additionally, by going through the golf courses, it is likely to attract more customers because the courses sell directly to the players who are the end-users of the products. The company, therefore, does not have to go looking for potential direct users of the products. The golf courses can reach a large number of customers within a short period compared to GolfLogix. Additionally, it can better explain the benefits of the product to the players better than the company itself as it will use value creation.

On the other hand, selling through the retail way will enable GolfLogix to have a second and complementary channel. Also, it will be able to attract more golf courses, especially when consumers like and recommend their product. Reaching the end-users is crucial because it also enables the company to know what it needs to do to improve or modify the product to suit the consumer more. It will also help in expanding market share by penetrating to the marketing and getting close to the consumer.

4. If you could only choose one of the two channels, which would you choose – courses or Retail?

If I were to choose only one Channel, I would go for Retail.

5. Given the option of selling through both channels, what would you do?

If I were allowed to sell through both channels, then I would first identify the needs and preferences of each. Then I would do market segmentation so that I single out the regions that are less dominated by Golf courses and penetrate them to reach the end-user through the retail Channel. Additionally, I would use the retail Channel to market the course or wholesaling Channel, and in this regard, it will cut down on the cost of marketing.
