The music concert was performed by Robert W. Smith in the McKenna Theatre in San Francisco on 15th November 2011, starting from 8:00 PM. The theatre was well organized, and fully packed, and the performance stage was set with numerous musical instruments such as pianos, guitars, drums, mixers, and some colorful lights sprinkling the arena. He appeared elegant in his black and white suit for the artist, but the variety of musical attires he wore kept me wanting more like the majority of the in-attendants who seemed more eager for the show.
The concert starts with a symphonic band staged by the leading artist. A high-pitched sound consonance accompanies the song, and at the introductory stage of the song, a calm and peaceful mood filled the theatre. The piano sounds together with saxophone spiced up the song's melody, a feeling that I fall in love with. As the song developed, the saxophone, backup singers, and the accompanying instruments grow higher and higher, and the song rhythm also raised steadily up to the peak of the song. At this time, the song's dynamics, flow, instruments, and everything started to get louder, but as the song goes off-peak, the rhythm, beats, instruments, and artist vocals began to drop from higher to moderate then low.
As the second track develops from the background, there are intermittent pauses and crowd engagement. There are a lot of cheers from the audience, and a one-on-one chat between them and the artist lights the theatre even more. Voice and tonal variations were also prominent, and with this, the mood, energy, and the overall concert environment grow more and more as time advances.
The concert is enjoyable from its start. The theater and stage setting, and how the artist plays around with his voice to the tonal variations are fantastic. The songs took away my feelings and provoked my thinking in a significant way. My emotions seemed to swing with the rhythm of the song, and any pause kept me wanting more. The artist and the instrumentalists attracted me even more, and at times, I was applauding the performance as if at a live concert. In fact, the concert was superb and made me want to listen to more of this music genre.
In my opinion, the act can be made even better. To do this, the artist should consider engaging in more solid performances, and through this, get the audience to dance with him.
The performer’s music genre is rock. Over time, the artist has performed gothic rock, post-punk, alternative rock, and new wave. He has been active from the 1970s, and apart from singing, he is also an instrumentalist and can play keyboards, bass, guitar, and vocals. His music is built on rock sound that centers around electric guitars, unsyncopated rhythm, and repetitive snare drums.
Smith’s music has been influenced by various political, cultural, and social factors. From his interviews, he reckons that Nick Drake and Jimi Hendrix profoundly influenced his music as he idolized them as a child. Also, though he says he is politically inactive, his musical content highlights on various political acts and he has used it from time to time to criticize several government and political ideologies. In addition to this, the English culture also plays a massive role in his music, such as his music style, attire, and performance. He has, for example, maintained rock, the most famous music genre in the UK. Additionally, his style of play that involves a variety of musical instruments such as guitars, piano, and drums as well as his stage attires, character and tonal variations maintains England’s traditions.
Personal reaction
Unlike the other genre of music am used too, this live performance connected my feelings and emotions in a great way. The performance, composition, instruments and everything kept me wanting more. Voice and tonal variations were excellent and the artist knew exactly when to engage the audience. The instrumentalists were also excellent and they brought life to the music and from a personal perspective, despite it being a new experience, the creativity and tranquility in the music and the performance as a whole has kept me yearning for similar events. However, though the performance was superb, I would wish to see the artist engage the audience not only in talks and singing but also with enthusiastic dances.
