An electronic health record (E.H.R) is a digital technology chart of a patient. Moreover, the system is real time and designed in a patient-centered approach since it promotes the availability of the medical patient data to authorized personnel (Bos et al., 2004). Nonetheless, it contains patient medical histories, diagnoses, treatment schedules and methods, radiology scans, and laboratory test outcome (Khosrow-Pour, 2018). Furthermore, the system promotes the access and use of evidence-based utilities that assist in acute decision making in regards to the patient's well-being. Lastly, the approach is automated and can promote a streamlined network with other hospital databases (Bos et al., 2004). Ideally, with such features, the E.H.R system proves to be one that supported leadership and management schemes in the medical sector; therefore, the paper outlines the purposes, clinical experience, and the overall obligation of the E.H.R in the health care sector.
As per the illustrated features of the E.H.R system in the first paragraph, the system mains purpose to enhance change and evolution in the health care sector by influencing the management and leadership schemes of the industry (Khosrow-Pour, 2018). First, leaders and managers understand that humans are not prone to making mistakes, but when it comes to the medical sector, it is vital to ensure a controlled approach is initiated in handling patient medical charts. E.H.R assists managers and leaders in controlling simple mistakes of misplaced, misinterpreted, or lost manual documents (Bos et al., 2004). Additionally, it promotes comparison analysis on various approaches deduced in treating illnesses, for example, the medical records can be shared accessed state, national, or regional-wise in case of a pandemic; thus, assisting managers and leaders share ideas on how to manage situations. Last, E.H.R promotes organization change, by encouraging the implementations of strategic and organizational planning and planned change as structures of ensuring all the medical personnel is up to date on the changes the nursing and technology industry faces (Hoffman, 2016).
The electronic health record experience is one that has different responses, while managers are happy in implementing the systems; some personnel disagree with such decisions (Hoffman, 2016). Managers accept the E.H.R experience since it assists them in the smooth running of the institute (Khosrow-Pour, 2018). At the same time, the system provides a clear line of instructions that need to be adhered to when inserting and retrieving information; thus, easy to recognize a mistake and give a solution in time (Boss et al., 2004). On the other hand, personnel are discouraged in their duties since the system has replaced and at some point performs their responsibilities more efficiently (Hoffman, 2016). Next, the system requires exceptionally trained staff, and with the current old age in the nursing and medical profession, they retire at an earlier date that established (Hoffman, 2016).
To conclude, the general obligation of the electronic health record system is to enhance the management of medical data. Management, in this case, represents, identifying and maintaining patient health record. Also, it analyzes the records, establishes and creates a list of all patient-specific health-related issues. Moreover, the system can assist in understanding the medication pattern of a patient; they develop a detailed treatment approach. Nonetheless, management can be interpreted as a means of organizing institution protocols, guidelines, and patient care procedures during his/her treatment process and duration. To make matters interesting, these systems assist in managing time; by ensuring diagnostics tests and results are sent in time and to the right practitioner. Finally, its operation helps in placing reminders that act as preventive service measures.
