Introduction

COVID-19 is an infectious disease that emerged in 2019 (Spinelli & Pellino, 2020). The disease causes severe acute respiratory issues and even death. Currently, the disease has spread across the world, and countries are striving to counter the problems. Usually, the disease is associated with several symptoms such as fever, cough, fatigue, breathing problem, and loss of some senses, for example, smell and taste (Holmes et al., 2020). People are perceived as the primary aspect of the spread of the disease. When an infected person coughs, sneezes, and talks, they release droplets that carry the virus (Nicola et al., 2020). In case uninfected individual comes into contact with the droplets and they fail to wash their hand or sanitize, they automatically get the virus. Due to the spread, the virus has negatively affected the world in several ways. The essay examines the effect of the virus on the bases of social, economic, political, and psychological aspects.

Effects of COVID-19

Socially, the virus has negatively affected activities such as education, health, religion, and much more (Nicola et al., 2020). Schools and churches have been closed to reduce mass gatherings. Due to the condition, more than 1.5 billion students have been affected across the world (Spinelli & Pellino, 2020). Despite the introduction of online systems, not many students can access the required learning materials, such as laptops. The cancellation of the worship services has negatively affected numerous religious groups to conduct mass praying and other activities (Nicola et al., 2020). Some churches, mosques, and temples, have shifted and nowadays are offering online services.

Economically, the disease has affected many companies due to poor movement of goods across the world. As such, companies have laid down many workers, increase the rate of unemployment (Holmes et al., 2020). A high rate of unemployment has reduced income rate, thus affecting the ability of families to cater for their daily requirements (Nicola et al., 2020). In most parts of the world, the demand for goods has reduced, and this has affected production, triggering slow economic growth (Spinelli & Pellino, 2020). Many countries, such as America, which have highly been affected, tend to concentrate more on improving the health condition, thus reducing the establishment of economic projects.

The virus has highly affected the political system of many countries as leaders have diverted their attention to combating the disease. Many countries are not in a position to carry out political activities and meetings, thus hindering the implementation of policies (Nicola et al., 2020). The spread of the virus in areas such as parliament has negatively affected how leaders participate in their daily activities (Holmes et al., 2020). In some countries where the political election was to be conducted, the government has been forced to cancel to avoid the massive spread of the virus.

Psychologically, the virus has been associated with an increase in stress and other mental issues. A large number of people appear to be reluctant to interact freely due to the fear of the virus (Holmes et al., 2020). Additionally, the virus has been associated with an increase in the suicide rate, especially due to pressure from financial factors, unemployment, and much more (Holmes et al., 2020). People who have contacted the disease tend to be discriminated against even after healing. The approach has triggered stress due to a lack of human connection.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the spread of COVID-19has been associated with a lot of effects, especially on a social, political, economic, and psychological level. Due to the effects, the living condition has changed, and this has negatively affected many people. Most nations lack a better approach to respond to the condition, which has hindered economic development. Close of schools has negatively affected the education system at all levels.
