This comparison focuses not on determining which of the singers is better but rather comparing which changes the singers made in each video to create the respective differences. At the beginning of the performances, Hua Chenyu had fewer instruments compared to Tengri who employed a wider range. The latter makes an acoustic that starts with Tibetan Monks chanting called Hoomai or a deep throat singing style as well as Mongolian music instruments and style which makes it authentic in a deeper way. The introduction begets suspense and less than five seconds later, the band introduces piano music accompanied by a blend of guitar humming and grand piano tunes. Hua Chenyu’s introduction lasts only half as long as Tengri’s and warm piano strings and very subtle saxophones the instrumentation.
When he first begins to sing, Tengri’s voice is deeply expressing and he conveys this through swelling in and out and forms vibrato and Hua Cheng’s vocals are almost similar pertaining the expressiveness and the emotion. However, Hua Cheng’s switches up the rhythm and makes it sound very different since his music is on the major scale while Tengri maintains his notes on the minor scale. Moreover, Tengri backs up his expressive voice with nonverbal language expressed through happy but deep facial expressions to create serious but exciting atmosphere for the audience. In contrast, Hua Cheng leans more towards the rhythm by creating an upbeat and a downbeat so that his music does not remain and then finishing off the session with a low beat.
At (2.22) Tengri adopts a more aggressive tone but maintains his passionate and evocative emotions. At the same time, he introduces two cut offs to introduce balance in the change of tone. He then pauses and allows the band to play music solo instruments (saxophone) and this section really draws in the audience, until he introduces the second stanza that has more beat coming in as compared to the first stanza. Hua Chenyu’s break is longer than Tengri’s and utilizes the flute, which brings in uniqueness and artistic flavor into the music. Unlike Tengri, he adopts a similar presentation style as with the firs stanza, which means he uses more upbeat and downbeat rhythm without much instrumentals. Tengri turns up the beat and even goes ahead to use cut offs with both his vocals and the accompanying instruments.
Both artists had highly diverse song climaxes that displayed immense emotions and enabled them to express their skill and talent in front of their audiences. Overall, Tengri’s version employed more variety in the way he sings it has more shades and he expresses the memories of his once beautiful but lost homeland in deep and rich vocals. Such singing is earthy and traditional and according to the Mongolian culture, it has a timeless aspect linked to it. Conversely, Hua Chenyu presents a more present version of the song in which he expresses pride, love, and hope for his homeland. The melody is both earthy and traditional and conveys a level of childlike innocence with it. Both artists express extreme sincerity with their emotions of profound love and pride for their homeland. Hua Chenyu and Tengri are multitalented and distinct since they are from different generations, but their uniqueness produces powerful music that resonates with their respective audiences.
