The “Assessment, Diagnosis and Treatment Planning in Clinical Social Work” video by George Jacinta explains how the methods used by a social worker during the counseling process regardless of the theoretical orientation of a person (Jacinto, 2016). According to George Jacinto, assessment is the procedure where the social worker obtains the information that will be used during diagnosis. Usually, the data is done when the patient talks to the clinical social worker under the name of building a rational process (Jacinto, 2016). This allows the social worker to attain at least five symptoms to determine the diagnosis.

Treatment is done through suggestions, goals, and objectives to the patient. Before all is done, the clinical social worker must build rapport with the client by making the client feel welcomed. The client is then engaged to ensure that the client becomes free with the social worker. In most circumstances, the clients are sensitive because they might have visited other chancellors who never assisted them as they wanted (Jacinto, 2016). The clinical social worker then observes the client’s messages and critical behaviors to get the details for the treatment report.

One new aspect is deliberate practice. I did not know that the therapist needs to prepare before entering the therapy session to reflect on the work plan. As explained, the chancellor needs to see how they can be calm while questioning the client. Another aspect is the assessment procedure. This is very interesting because the therapist can find out more about the client’s psychological, spiritual, psychological, and biological status (Jacinto, 2016). With such information, the therapist will also understand more about the needs needed by the client. It is in this stage that the therapist uses the Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs to determine the esteem needs, love needs, safety needs, and belongings of the client.

The deliberate practice, as mentioned by George Jacinto, is a tool needed by expertise such as social workers. Most social workers must grasp the nature of ethical problems in the cultivation and profession to manage any challenging ethical dilemmas. This method’s importance is that the social worker will be able to identify any obligations or conflicting issues of the client (Jacinto, 2016). The social worker will then engage the client with a meaningful dialogue to elaborate more on the dilemmas they are facing and the solutions to the problem.

The BPSSA Sample Video

The video done by Karly Philips shows more on the role of a social worker when talking to a client (Philips, 2015). The client who went through harassment when she was young also grew up without a father because he is the one who was abusing her. The patient was later raised by her uncle because his father was arrested due to sexual harassment (Philips, 2015). Karly Philip’s role is to hear the case and then find a possible solution to the client and how she can leave a stress-free life.

The video was not that professional because of the angle of the camera. Also, the sound was not that clear, especially for a viewer that wants to learn about social work. Another error is the sitting position of both the client and the therapist. Usually, the client should be seated in a comfortable position to tell the therapist what is bothering them. The changes that should take place are that the client should be seated to a comfortable seat to make them relax (Philips, 2015). Also, therapists should have a variety of free drinks to give the client to make them relax.

Karly’s body language was welcoming because she sat in a way to show the client that she is ready. However, the client did not look so comfortable as she felt too close with the chancellor. The therapist’s tone was smooth and calm, which made the client open up and say the disturbing things (Philips, 2015). The engagement and the overall effectiveness of the assessment were appealing because the primary purpose was to talk to the client who told the story the way it is without fear.

The Critique of the Sample BPSSA Template

Upon looking at the BPSSA template, it is clear that it used to gather information from the client before treatment. The model also has a lot of rules and regulations to safeguard their services to clients. The template consists of sections that explain more on the services offered to the client, and the information needed before the treatment. The strengths of that template are that the consent to treatment section contains several questions to save time during the session. Weaknesses of that template are that when the client misses the appointment, they are still charged. The time allocated for the meetings is not enough, and this may not assist the client.

This tool is beneficial because it gives the therapist more information about the client, and this will also help them to understand if the problem they have come from the family lineage of experience. No, the document does not talk about diversity, spirituality, and culture because people may say that they discriminate against people because of the race. Nothing should be changed in the document because it has sufficient details. Also, the questions asked cover almost half of the client’s life, and so the session will flow. This saves time when the session begins because the chancellor will not ask the client about other details but go directly to the challenges that took the client there.
