Justification of the Research
That mobility is a central determinant of the social and economic structure of an urban setting is a notion that has interested many researchers. Indeed, urban planning is premised on the interconnectedness of inhabitants, and the flow of resources. Urban environments are evaluated on the basis of how available structures and infrastructure create communities, accommodate population growth, and fortify existing physical facilities. Cities are complex, evolving systems whose social and economic aspects are largely reliant on transport and spatial planning. In recent years, there has been a renewed attention on quantitative models for urban transportation. Such models help enhance the understanding of urban dynamics, predict the impact of new technologies, policies, and infrastructures, and permit the establishment of collaborative, participatory processes for enhanced livelihoods of urban inhabitants.
Urban Settings
When modelling the relationships between income and standard of living in urban settings, standard theoretical approaches tend to disregard the relative comparison for addressing subjective welfare issues. Nonetheless, empirical evidence underscores the importance of determining the social and macro-environmental impacts of urban solutions. Consequently, a shift from the objective perspective on the centrality of urban transport infrastructure to the incorporation of more subjective nuances becomes critical. In this regard, the motivation for this study is twofold. Foremost, the main objective is to add to the literature on urban mobility solutions in light of growing populations, limited resources and the global climate change concerns.
Conclusion
The study argues that this objective is fulfilled through two main contributions: i) the potential of addressing the transportation challenge within a low-income environment; ii) determining the social impacts of new urban transport solutions built on modern technologies and the macro environmental challenges of such technologies. Secondly, the study argues that this research might further build on recent studies that try to explain the importance of modern technology in addressing urban mobility challenges.
