Professionalism is the possession of a distinctive way of behavior or having unique skills that any other common or ordinary individual does not possess. Such skills will always influence the action of the possessor. One would ever want to cling to how to conduct his/her duties and more procedurally to still appeal to people around. Again, it can be defined as the set of skills, knowledge, and practices a teacher has to instill in oneself to be considered an effective tutor.
Professionalism in dealing with young children in their early childhood education is always drawing considerable attention from many. One of the challenges faced in dealing with children in child care centers is raising and upholding professional competence and maintaining credibility as a teacher or caregiver. Therefore, as a skilled and qualified teacher, I would hand young learners in a very sober and solemn way, to help them feel that education is enjoyable and not view education as a punishment at that early age. This is helpful in their development. Otherwise, almost all these young children can end up as school drop-outs because of mishandling them or treating them in an unprofessional manner.
As a professional teacher, I have to play a crucial role in assisting young children in achieving classwork success. I must take my responsibility seriously. It is important to note that acting unprofessionally before the kids may cost me respect and trust. Again, I should always be neat in appearance (Zeiger, 2018). For instance, as a male teacher, I should be wearing pants and a buttoned shirt or polo shirt, occasionally adding a tie or a coat. Additionally, I should refrain from smoking or drinking alcohol in the kids' presence, avoid vulgar language, or behave weirdly with colleagues on their faces.
When it comes to interacting with parents, especially those taking care of young children while at home, it is so pertinent to let them know their kids' weaknesses and strengths, it will enable them to help the teachers focus on how to turn their weaknesses into strengths in an amicable way (Karageorge, & Kendall, 2008). In case I don't act professionally to the parents, they may feel like their kids in one way or the other are not getting what they deserve, or the teachers are mishandling them. However, this may not be the case, but it may be because they have not been put into light about their children's behaviors or habits. Therefore, as a professional, I have to remain confident, dependable, honest, and reliable to the parents.
Finally, I should always interact positively with my colleagues, share teaching techniques, analyze data together, and discuss curriculum challenges to uplift the students academically (Zeiger, 2018). Again, organizing regular meetings with them to make subject connections to improve the kids' performance, and develop strategies for resolving certain behavioral problems in them.
Conclusion
In conclusion, as a professional, I’ve to play my role in being truthful to everyone, from children to colleagues, and parents. Most importantly, treating all with due respect, irrespective of race, gender, economic status, culture, or disability. Treat each one as an important individual.
