Echo reading refers to a reading technique where a teacher or educators first read paragraphs or phrases and then give a chance for students to echo back the same words or phrases to the teacher (Kim, Bryant, Bryant, & Park, 2016). Echo reading is commonly known as rereading. Parents can be instructed by the teachers to embrace the echo reading technique at home with their kids. This reading technique is useful for students who have reading difficulties. It helps in boosting students' reading abilities in various aspects such as identification of unknown words, improvement of the student's listening skills, improvements in comprehension reading, enhancement of confidence, vocabulary, and paper phrasing. This reading technique applies to middle school students and students in elementary school. Kim et al. (2016) claimed that the echo reading technique is very significant is teaching students with learning disabilities, including Down Syndrome and speech impairments. Kim et al. (2016) further claim that the reading techniques best work, especially when the student's reading material is higher than their current level of reading. This is basically because the student will be frustrated, especially when the reading material is very complicated and challenging for them to read on their own. The echo reading technique is even more productive if the students are made to apply it while reading materials that they are more familiar with or when reading books that they like the most.
The impact and the benefits of echo reading on students with reading disabilities cannot be overemphasized. Echo reading helps in enhancing the reading abilities of students in various aspects. Furthermore, it helps in building confidence in the student, improves their listening skills, enhances the reading of comprehension, paper phrasing, and vocabularies. Moreover, the technique is very vital, especially if students are made to read materials that they are familiar with or the ones that they like most.
