General psychology is a specialized area in the field of psychology that dwells much on the study of the mind using scientific theories and principles. On a personal level, the most interesting topics in general psychology include cognition, behavior, and perception which are centered on psychological problems. Currently, these topics generate a lot of interest in studies as they provide a lot of insight on how human beings reason or think. General psychology thus defines how the human mind works based on checking emotions, perception, memory and intelligence. It is at this point that I can sub-categorize them into falsifiability, logic and perhaps comprehensiveness.

They are important topics of study when one needs to understand the thought process that arrives at a given decision or why an individual behaves or thinks in a particular way. The topics above require acute knowledge of research techniques that are applicable through qualitative and quantitative means. The research techniques, therefore, aid in the explanation of vast psychological phenomena and solutions of daily psychological problems that result from human activities. It is through the acquisition of these scientific skills that students improve and refine their understanding of reality. This method of understanding can also be termed as comprehensiveness in the field of general psychology (Ruscio, 2006, p.17).

In this fascinating specialization area, the most discussed, debated and researched topics are usually oriented towards human behavior and mental health. These topics include Aging and mental illness, how gender affects depression levels, the existing relationship between physical illness and stress, how the environment shapes mental and physical development. Others include the relationship between obesity and psychological problems. Scientific reasoning plays a critical role in associating behavior, attitude and feelings to the various actions that human beings perform. It helps to appreciate the fact that science is a process and a way of thinking that offers immense tools meant for coming to the reality of actions. Ruscio (2006) affirms that through science, an important aspect of research tools in general psychology such as observation and testing obtain a broader meaning.

A given psychological problem can prove meaningful after a hypothesis is posed and later becomes approved or disapproved. When the claim is disapproved, the psychologist would have to demonstrate its inaccuracy through a scientific process. This system of validation is known as falsifiability, and it is highly applicable in general psychology especially when dealing with patients recovering from depression mainly caused by the abuse of drugs (Ruscio, 2006, p.15). In such cases, the addicts would wish to have a detailed account of how their current state and the abuse of drugs are related. It is through an acute knowledge of falsiability that a clinical psychologist would explain the association between the abuse of drugs and depression by inspecting the disadvantages of using drugs.

Lastly, logic contributes immensely to the success of any solutions to problems encountered in the field of general psychology. Logic ensures that any claim to any knowledge in general psychology is reasonable (Ruscio, 2006, p.16). It ensures that arguments against a claim are satisfactory and that the conclusion reached at must follow the processes of logical reasoning. It becomes reflective in this specialization area as solutions to behavioral vices such as robbery would need an understanding of logic first so that the factors causing them could be identified. The due logical processes would involve hearing the claims, establishing of facts, justification of the claims and lastly reaching a reasonable conclusion on the issue.
