Introduction
Numerous studies strongly associate sleep depreciation to emotional disorders and anxiety. Such studies generally agree that sleeping below eight hours for a span of one week is detrimental to one’s empathy ability and may result to more chronic diseases associated with depression and human’s mental ability. Thus one can prevent such illness by having ample night sleep.
Lack of Sleep
Lack of sleep is detrimental to a person’s mental health when analyzing deprivation regarding mental related problems. First, adequate sleep enables an individual to cope with daily stress of life. However, since the mood changes and anger episode associated with the lack of sleep make it challenging to effectively deal with any stress thus adversely affecting the mental health of an individual (Rahman et al., 2013) . Secondly, depression is another mental health associated with lack of sleep. The lack of sleep leads to hormonal changes that result to depression especially with chronic lack of sleep. However, depression can be treated by cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT).
Emotional Awareness
Emotional awareness entails the perception of one’s behaviors and that of others. However, the lack of sleep according to sleep has been associated to distorted emotional awareness in various ways. At the onset, people with deprived sleep are usually emotionally reactive (Guadagni et al, 2014). Such individual’s response to unpleasant situation are usually intense and impulsive. Sleep deprivation increases the activity of the amygdala, the emotional response faculty of the brain. Secondly, psychologists assert that sleep deprivation is detrimental to one’s appreciation towards others as appreciation, a form of emotional intelligence, strongly associates with the adequacy of sleep.
Emotional awareness or intelligence entails how a person can effectively manage their emotions. This psychological ability is essential to an individual in navigating different aspects of life. First, Emotional intelligence is essential in navigating the complexities if a person’s career and workplace thus increasing work performance. Secondly, being aware of one’s emotions is an essential element in one’s mental health as it helps prevent anxiety and depressions.
Conclusion
In sum, the issues discussed are essential in the psychological wellbeing of a person as it translates to the physical manifestation in a person’s behavior. Research thus identifies enough sleep as the as the gateway to a heath mental and emotional wellbeing.
