Acknowledgement

My work placement at Priory Hospital Potters Bar as a mental health Nurse was successful. I am greatly thankful for the management and my bosses for the opportunity given to me to move from my workstation to other units within the establishment. Furthermore, I extend my profound appreciation to my colleagues in all the units I passed through while was in work placement and more specifically for their motivation and even continued with my work with my presence.

Much appreciation goes to my colleague nurses in various units in the hospital for having spared their spacious time to mentor me and brief me what to do in various clinical fields.

I wish to extend my gratitude to Anglia Ruskin University, London for giving the opportunity to experience this exciting task, which indeed has improved my skills as a clinician.

Finally yet importantly, I want to thank my family for their encouragement and patience while was at the work placement. Their mental and financial support had a great significance towards this.

Introduction

It is a well-known that practical aspects of a theoretical learning activity more specifically the technically oriented subjects requires students to undergo work placement to understand better task and practices performed by industry experts or professionals and at the same time increase self-confidence. Furthermore, attending internship in a reputable organization help the student apply theoretical concepts of the course to practical issues in the actual nursing and other organizations he/she may be placed.

Work placement, in general, refers to work experience that is relevance to professional development before graduation. For any medical student who wants to be successful in their future career, work placement can offer a foundation. It is a necessary step towards the development a successful career for any because it gives the student the real feeling of the working world. Through work placement, a student can learn how to work with teams and beat deadlines. According to Lomax (2010), work placement helps students find more about a job they desire or the industry they want to work in the future. My work placement was at Priory Hospital Potters Bar as a mental health Nurse.

Anglia Ruskin University in London calls for a mandatory work placement before any student can complete their nursing course and taste the true meaning of professional experience. Well, along with the practical work placement diary, a student must submit a written report of his/ her time and experiences at the date of the work placement. The report is thus an account of my completed work placement period.
