After having a cautious opening of the discussion, the next step is to provide records of dates, times, notes and the decision that have been made in the past regarding their children and the steps that the teachers have taken towards the success of the children. The next step is to enquire about the relationship between the parents and their children and how such relationships affect the commitment of parents towards the success of their children. This requires that the teachers do a critical evaluation on the motives of the parents and advise on the best ways that the parents can improve on their efforts on the success of their children in school. This is the stage that may necessitate knowledge of neighborhood issues to help in understanding how the social, religious, cultural and economic factors affect the commitment of the parents towards the welfare of their children in school. It is evident that managing difficult parents is one of the hardest things in the teaching profession and this requires the teachers to acquire and apply special skills in the course of having meetings with the parents. Acquiring good interpersonal skills with the teachers is crucial for the successful running of any learning institution and ensures that there is holistic growth and development of the schools. Moreover, the parents need to take keen interest in the success of their children and acknowledge that they also have a big role to play in molding their children and should not therefore leave every duty to the teachers.
