Recognize And Summarize Changing Perceptions And Definitions Of Art Throughout History.
Art mainly refers to the highly diverse variety of human activities based on creating visual or auditory, which expresses the artist's (author) imaginative or even technical skills they have (Goodman, Nelson & Tiziana, 2019). The artists are always recommended for their emotional power and the beauty that they showcase in their artistic work. Historians view art as the study of art objects that were being considered during their present times. Their art was based on paintings, architecture, and sculptures, which were recognized as visual art. The perception of art throughout has been based on the relationship between the individual understanding of the artistic work and the visual stimuli. One may develop artistic work, but how people view it, their opinion, and how they evaluate it is what matters.
Define aesthetics and some variables in how we perceive and assign value to the art.
Aesthetics is the learning of beauty as well as taste philosophically. The study is closely related to philosophical art, mainly art nature, and how the artwork of different artists is interpreted and evaluated. The term art is normally used to express the value of the work done by the artists, i.e., the security guard is an artist. The word “art’ is normally used to value one in a high manner (Hernando, Elisa & Sara, 2017). Artists are always judged on the artwork they have done, and with that, they will know their worth. Individuals will always appreciate the good work presented to them by the artists, enabling them to earn from that. Making judgments on which artwork is better than the other is criticism, but identifying the best out of the variety of artworks is based on how one is attracted to the work or repulsive to the work.
Describe and discuss some contemporary theories in the definition of art.
Scholars have tried to develop different definitions of how art can be defined, but every sociologist always writes their theories expressing how art should be defined. They think that it’s a mistake for anyone to try and define beauty or art. One of the contemporary approaches is the institutional theory, which explains art as a sociological category; hence whatever school of art one attends or even the museum the artifact is located in, the artist’s work should always be of value. The approach was invented by George Dickie. Another approach was the functionalism invented by Monroe, arguing that any piece of art counts, but the important thing is what role it plays in every given context (Smith, 2019). Finally is the proceduralist theory, which John Dewey wrote, illustrating how the artwork is created or viewed is what makes it ‘art’ or even how people view it. Therefore, how we view the good work done by several artists is always critical in their work and even in defining art in general. Everyone always has their view on every artistic work present before them though different but it has a lot of impact on the field.
