Self-Confidence, Style of Parenting Together With Social Anxiety In Girls
This study tries to examine the relation between self-confidence, style of parenting together with social anxiety in girls. Self-esteem is how an individual values himself or herself; it is a perception of a person’s value to the world and how the individual thinks he or she is valuable to others. Self-esteem influences one’s trust in others, personal relationships, and every aspect of our lives. An individual’s positive self-esteem enable people to take control their lives and learn from their mistakes without the fear of rejection. Parenting refers to the process of promoting a child’s development from infancy to adulthood. The child needs to be supported physically, emotionally, socially and intellectually up to adulthood. Parenting style has an effect on child’s self-esteem. Social anxiety is defined as the fear of interaction with others due to the fear of being judged and evaluated negatively. Research studies have a statistically significant negative relationship between self-esteem and social anxiety i.e. individuals with low self-esteem have high social anxiety.
Hypothesis
i. There would be a notable relationship between parental style, self-esteem, and social anxiety
ii. The self-esteem and Authoritarian Style of parenting would be a significant predicting factor for social anxiety.
Methodology
Sample
The subjects for the study were 200. The age of the sampled participants ranged from 15 to 18 years. The subjects included students.
Tools for Data Collection
The data collection method will be primarily using interview questions. Self-reported measures will be used. To measure social anxiety, the Social Interaction Anxiety Scale (SIAS) will be used. On the other hand, data on participant’s self-esteem will be gathered using the Rosenberg self-esteem scale (RSES). Lastly, Parenting Authority Scale will be used to collect data on participant’s perception of their parental authority. All the three scales are highly valid and reliable
Analysis/Conclusion
After data collection, the data will be analyzed both descriptively and inferentially using SPSS software. The inferential statistical methods will include Pearson’s Product Moment correlation and multiple regression. Pearson correlation will be used to examine the relationship between the variables while multiple regression will be used to identify the predictors.
